When I was younger. I defeat it by logic. Infatuation is just an idealized fantasy of what someone is like. It is an illusion, and illusions are meant to be broken.

I never totally get over it, I just have pain which gradually gets less over time but never disappeares entirely

Yes, it's a hopeless despairing feeling. I get it, been there. But don't feel so bad, like for me it's just like not being able to be with that special someone, but there are better people out there, I know it's easy for me to say (well not actually but it's true tho)
