People are many times good at picking up patterns so most of the time it’s mutual just be aware of people who may be being more manipulative and don’t have your best intentions at heart. Such as ego feeders people who have no real interest but seeing if you’ll flirt back to get attention, people wanting sex, people wanting someone for financial reasons, social status, etc.

But most of the time people know when things are going well as well as when it’s not. Most people can tell when you’re hitting it off with someone as well as when they have mutual feelings for you verses when it’s awkward and seems forced.

I will say though some people have what’s called a conformation bias where they start getting it into their head and looking for signs someone’s attracted rather then just picking up on them. So they may start seeing things as signs that aren’t really signs at all.
