Have you ever given an indirect compliment to someone instead of a direct compliment?

So it’s Casual Friday and I’m sporting my oldest pair of jeans and my favorite heels. Nothing special, tbh, but a young, nice-looking fella stops his bike, takes out his AirPods and calls over, “Hey, those are GREAT jeans.”

It was a funny sort of thing to say to a stranger, but I just offered a little smile, said “Aww, thank you,” and kept walking, not thinking too much of it…

And that’s when I heard it… that extra base a guy gets in his voice when his eyes are still on you. “You’re… welcome.” And for several seconds I felt as if a laser pointer was directed at my backside. Goodness….

As I walked the rest of the way back to the office I wondered if I ever gave someone an indirect compliment to avoid saying what I wanted. Yeah, perhaps once or twice, but y’all know me… I usually go for the jugular with my compliments and critiques.

Yeah, all the time. I don’t want anyone to misunderstand.

Sometimes bc I’m shy and the indirect compliment is just easier to say.

I'm usually pretty direct. If I want to compliment someone, they usually know my intention was to give them one. Some people I might address a little more carefully... especially women as they tend to take things a bit too... personally a lot of the time.

Oh no no... I am direct and specific with my compliments lol. If I love the way you squeak when you laugh... I'm gonna say, "you squeak when you laugh, it is SO cute... i love it" Lol

You must have a nice figure, and since he was only a stranger... he complimented the jeans only lol.

I don't do it... I avoid all body related compliments, with an exception for really extraordinary stuff...
and my compliments are rather direct and straightforward :D

Same. I’ll sometimes compliment a nice hairstyle if it looks super intricate. But generally compliments are about a person’s work or something cool they said, etc.

Is it an indirect compliment if I say, "You look very nice tonight." instead of "I'd like to rip those clothes off and go exploring your naked body?" If that counts. . . yes, I've done it a few times.

I try to be pretty direct if someone makes something into something that it’s not I can’t help their minds in the gutter. But I also try not to make people feel uncomfortable either especially since most people are just out minding their business not wanting to be bothered or deal with people as where others want attention.

Indirect compliments are meant to be direct. If someone misses their intent... that's on them. I think most people pickup on what is meant. Your situation is different. You were a stranger. So to compliment a stranger, you need to not be creepy. That dude, to me (which is not what matters) was a little creepy. You need to make compliments to strange women as tasteful and preferably innocent (your hair looks nice)

I asked a coworker if we could talk off company property so I wouldn't get in trouble after we kept exchanging looks. She obliged. I said her butt makes my dick tingle. She slapped mine in response and we went about our day.

... I never saw her again.

(really though, she was transferring to a different state. That's why I did it. We still talk every now and then)

Shy and indirect. I worry I'm coming on too strong if I pay a really direct compliment to someone whom I find myself inadvertently attracted to.

I communicate more with hi's and smiles when I admire a woman. I worry it comes across as games but I'm actually feeling truly in earnest when I try to express myself.
