Sometimes a bit of chitchat can be nice but ultimately I am there to workout and that's what I want to focus on. If I want to meet up with guys I'll go somewhere else.
6 moThere needs to be a balance. But the ONLY place I believe is an ABSOLUTE no to asking someone out is at work.
Yes, it IS ok to ask someone out at the gym (man or woman). After all, some people find a partner who is serious about their health to be the number one (or close to number) most attractive trait and what better place than the gym? It also shows you have at least one thing in common. And women need to learn that men are NOT mind readers and "hints" or "he should just know off the bat she is not interested" are not really valid because nobody can be blamed for what is not expressly communicated. If you are not interested, just say so. I do not believe in making women feel uncomfortable at the gym in anyway, but at the end of the day I'm not going out of my way to make them feel comfortable either or treating them with special care just because they are a female. I'm just doing me. And ANYWHERE I see a woman I might like, I'm going to find a respectful way to approach her and ask. Closed mouth never gets fed and the worst answer is no, which is when I just go about my day.
On the other hand, men (and women, yes some women are guilty of this too) need to learn that the moment s/he says no, it is over and leave it alone. Don't sulk, don't push anymore. And do NOT approach someone mid-set or with their headphones on. Also, do not linger just for the purpose of catching them without them on. Just wait for the right moment and be respectful. Also, when told no by someone, don't go to bouncing around and asking others. Doing this too often will give you a bad reputation.
I've asked women out at the gym 4 times. Only one ever said yes. We went on a few dates, realized we were not compatible and left things alone. And we BOTH still workout at the same gym still. The rest said no, but ALL of them are still at the gym and there is no awkwardness. It is about being respectful, both in approach and when the outcome may/may not be what you want.
FINALLY, I want to point out something. I travel a lot within my state for work so I have both Planet Fitness and Crunch memberships and go to multiple locations. At EVERY one of them, it has been the WOMEN who made the first moves in the gym, NOT the men.

6 moI think it depends on your approach if you pester someone especially after they asked you to stop. Also, not all chit chat is flirty sometimes people just make conversation… Even if it’s awkward sometimes. It’s how some people are.
I also think it depends on the woman. Some women are taken, some aren’t looking for attention, and others are there to get attention. Men aren’t mind readers… There are women who complain about being approached and then some who complain about not being approached…. Sometimes the same women.
It also comes down to if the man is attractive. Most men would by lying if they said they would react differently if a woman they found attractive approached them… Verses one who they aren’t attracted to. As well as if someone’s in relationship.
Be respectful… have boundaries. Chit chat is fine but if someone seems to be trying to disengage keep it short. Maybe leave your number for a follow up later on.
I am sort of the same way…. When random people talk to me. I’m nice and respectful but it can be awkward especially if I’m in the middle of something. But I’m also pretty respectfully direct. “Well I need to get back to my workout but it was nice talking to you” most people will leave you alone. But some people you have to be more firm with. No sorry bro I don’t watch a lot of football…. Yeah that call by the ref was bullshit. Wow that’s crazy your team won by that many points? Well if your quarterback just did this you would have won the game. Amazing.
and I’m not being rude. Most people genuinely are being friendly. It’s just when they won’t leave you alone it becomes a issue.

6 moI don't mind approaching women in the gym if I find them attractive. I really don't see the harm in asking them if I could get their number and connect, or maybe see if they're up for coffee sometime. If they say no, then that's that. Move on. It shouldn't be a big deal to either the girl or the guy in that scenario.
But the way women are nowadays, it's not intelligent to approach them. Girls complain about not being approached by men nowadays, but then say they don't want them to approach them in pretty much every scenario. They contradict themselves. There are not many scenarios where guys can approach girls in person without them getting annoyed by it.
Women need a serious mentality change nowadays. They need to learn to get off their damn phones and learn to be receptive to being approached in most scenarios. I'm not saying they have to agree to go out with the guy. Just handle being approached with grace. That's all us guys ask for.
20 Reply333 opinions shared on Flirting topic. Not really , considering I don’t like to be bothered when I am working out , so I don’t want to bother her as well , feel it’s the respectful thing to do , now if she is drop dead gorgeous, I might try to make small talk just so she knows who I am , and then I might ask her out after she is done working out and getting ready to leave
20 ReplyI avoid women at the gym like the plague.
There are far too many women that film themselves with the specific intent of getting men in trouble, even when the guy was minding his own business. Tiktok clout chasers have made the gym a toxic, unsafe place for men, so now all women are suspect. It's too risky for men.
I genuinely wish men could have their own, female-free gyms, but of course, that's "sexist" to even suggest, even if it's a matter of safety. Yet, women can have their own gyms, without it being a problem. I wish they'd use them, and leave us alone.
At the very least, video recording, of any kind, needs to be banned, from all gyms.

6 moI think people need to go to the gym to work out and not meet people. I also think recording your workouts and making ridiculous poses is narcissistic, self absorbed, and completely annoying. Men and women do this and I say get a home gym and do that crap in the privacy of your own home. It's embarrassing. I work out at home because the gym is a social media circus. I'd say at least 10-15% of people think it's a club to meet people and record themselves in efforts to be an influencer. Both men and women. Men get bothered too, less frequently I'm sure, but it happens.

Agreed with the recording and yes on some days it feels worse than going to a club lmao

seriously! I'm very approachable in real life and I might accidentally invite conversations because I nod my head and actually make eye contact and say things like good morning and have a nice day... Some girl asked me if i would be in her video doing something dumb and when I said no thank you it confused her. She was prob some influencer I could give two shits about haha
- 6 mo
It's just my prob unpopular opinion to which I am adapting to changing times and just rolling with it, but I think a gym where we're paying to go to should not be your back drop for your youtube channel or a photo shoot op. It's just weird to me says the guy born in 1979 lol
1.2K opinions shared on Flirting topic. No I don't approach women in the gym I'm there to workout and I generally don't like being bothered when I'm working out so I certainly wouldn't do that to someone.
Only time I do approach them is if they look like they are using or are using equipment I need and I ask if they are using it or how many sets they have left on it.
If a girl approaches me and has questions about working out or something or even wants to work out together then I'm fine with that. But otherwise unless I'm there with a workout buddy I typically keep to myself.

6 moIt's not safe to talk to women in a gym. Women go into gyms to purposely cause trouble. They dress in basically langerie and try to catch some man looking at them. Then they will complain to the gym that a man is staring at them. A blind man was even accused of staring one of these women. They will often film it. I think that huge butch lesbians should be hired to hit on these gym thots and drive them out.

Anonymous(30-35)6 moI don't hit up girls at the gym. But I see it happen, and many girls are there dressed in a way that makes it VERY clear they want the attention. The problem is, they only want the attention from the guys they want the attention from.
I get that many girls are not there looking for attention, and I feel bad for those who get hit up when they don't want it. But keep in mind guys can't read minds. We are the ones who are expected to approach women. Women make it that way. Put yourself in the shoes of guys and try to see what position that puts us in.

u 6 moas you said... they're there to work out, so I just let people be...
and that's my general go for most places too... lmao10 Reply It depends. Yes, for the guy on the left. No, for the guy on the right:
23 Reply- 6 mo
Guy on the left could literally be less strong than the guy on the right, and actually look it too if the other guy took his shirt off, bro on the left has a better jawline that could take an upper cut and I bet he’s talker irl. That being said both have narrow shoulders. Dude on the left could barely bench a 205 lbs if that.

*Jawline better on right

Oh, I think they’re both women upon closer inspection
6 moI don't mind being approached if I'm not doing an intense workout. I think I look the most approachable when I'm stretching or using free weights

@queenofcardio Does it bother you if the guy approaches you when you're wearing revealing gym attire? Like spandex and a sportsbra or whatever?
u 6 moI go to the gym to train, I hardly notice the other people, male or female. Maybe in the sauna or the relaxation room you exchange a few words, but not to hit on anyone, even when everybody is nude.

Anonymous(18-24)6 moNot really. Any place I’m there to do something is not a place I want to be hit on, even when I’m single. There are places for that (bars, coffee shops, student lounges at school, etc.)

6 moEhhh I go to the gym to work out. It's pretty uncool to hit on women in gyms in my opinion. But if they want you to talk to them, I think they'll make it pretty obvious anyway.

6 mo20 somewhat years in the gym, never hit on a girl there. There have been girls from my gym that I've hit on out and about being like hey we go to the same gym, but never when they are working out. Very rude I think.
00 ReplyThis is why I work out at home. So I don't have to think about this.

You don't have to think about it, just focus on your workout 🤷♀️
When I went to gym the only time in interacted with anyone else was if they needed a spotter or I did. I've never gone to gym to hook up with a girl. I don't know anyone who has.
00 Reply1.3K opinions shared on Flirting topic. No, I've always felt that people go to a gym to work on themselves, not meet people. Unless it's someone I already know or there is some contextual reason to start a conversation I don't approach at gym.
