If a person, regardless of the gender would text me after midnight, you can be that I would be very upset and that for 2 very distinctive reasons:

1. Only my family knows my phone number. If anyone would text me, that would mean that there has been a breach and that my number was given to them.

2. I sleep after midnight and I would think that something happened to a member of my family if they would text so late.

But to answer your question, no, that does not have to mean that you have to catch up in person.

Your idea is fine but you could say that a tad bit nicer. You could maybe say something like "Sounds good. Are you good with meeting up and catching up?" and if she gets all weird about it then just cut her off. It's not wrong for you to want to talk in person.
