Are you comfortable giving and receiving compliments? What’s the nicest one you’ve ever received?

I know some people only compliment those they’re close to, especially about appearance. I give compliments when they’re due, and I’m always comfortable receiving them too, it’s simply genuine, and I used to it, it’s part of my personality this question inspired by @Maybe_Maybe_not😊

The only compliments I like is when like i'm at the beach and the seagulls fly over and they say what they say that screeching, sound.\nUsed to hear guys make that sound when they see a nice girl , , walking down the street or something. Because I can laugh about that one\nThe next time you're around Siegel's, listen to the noise they make. You'll start laughing so hard. But that's the only compliment I like doing a job, and it starts, I load up my stuff. I just throw it in my truck

I've been told here more than once: "I wish you were my father."

I have a female friend who said to me these things:

[In the late 1980s or early 1990s.]

"Why isn't every guy like you?"

"Why aren't you married?" (I am now.)

In 2012, from my future customer boss during a contractor hiring interview.
"When can you start? [That was pretty much the whole interview because he already knew me; I mentored his daughter and had a good reputation at that place of work.]

In 2019, from my boss during my performance review interview:

Earlier, I mentioned an exGF. I wanted to marry that girl. She dumped me on her mother's 50th birthday, 12 JAN 1992. I've been undead since. But, there was a period 2 months later in which she was really friendly with me. On the night on Thursday 12 MAR 1992, right after her birthday, we were having a conversation and she mentioned how she used to ask her boyfriends "What would you do if I got pregnant?" Now, first, I was surprised by the question because she was a virgin... at least while she was with me. A gorgeous, 24-year-old virgin. I was willing to wait until marriage because, well, I wanted to marry her. But, I was equally surprised for another reason... I asked her "How come you never asked me that question?" She replied, "Because I already knew the answer." To me, that was very special. Now, she wasn't going to get pregnant before we were married because I agreed to wait. But, she also knew how I was with kids because kids played an important role in our becoming a couple. I did not have kids and apparently she didn't either and I was never obsessed with having them, but I would have been a decent father, I think. And, Lord God knows, I loved that girl and would until I died.

I think most people compliment others but they are not genuine most of the time. We do it to seem polite to some coworker or some friend because we don’t want to hurt their feelings or get them upset. I’m not used to receiving compliments unless a guy thinks I’m pretty and even in those situations most of the time they are not genuine because they have a purpose with you so I guess not.

You are talking hear about “flattery” which is totally different from “compliment”
Flattery is when you give compliments you don’t truly mean, usually to please someone or avoid hurting their feelings.
It called compliment when you really mean it and feel it

I'm good with giving compliments. I know how to reply to compliments in a natural positive way (though sometimes the comment makes me feel shy/awkward and frankly I don't always believe it). At times I wonder if the other person is complimenting bc they want something (which has been the case in some instances), so I tend to take compliments with a grain of salt.

I’m not sure that i’ve ever received a genuine compliment. Therefore i am unpracticed at receiving them with grace.
I don’t have a problem offering compliments, but i don’t do that routinely either.

I am verbally expressive and therefore risk making people uncomfortable. If it's a man they might also read it the wrong way. I can take compliments well, though I don't always know what to say other than thank you.

The nicest compliment I've gotten from a stranger is that looking into my eyes made them feel safe.

I try to be be gracious and accept a compliment with a polite "thank you" but no fanfare and then move the conversation forward without dwelling on it.

When giving compliments, I try to deliver it in the way I like to receive them. Just an acknowledgement of the effort or good taste of the individual without making the moment embarrassing for them. Then move the conversation forward at a natural pace.

I am to a point, then I get embarrassed. I appreciated one parent hugging me when her autistic son began learning to read. That made my entire school year!

I love complimenting people. It's one of the easiest ways to start conversations with people. The best compliments are from my parents when they're appreciate everything about their children.

I'm far more comfortable giving than receiving. I'm a pretty modest guy. I know what I'm good at and what I am not. Recognition sits slightly uncomfortably. I guess I never got it as a child.

I often compliment someone's nice clothes or their look. All ages! Everyone likes a genuine compliment. I get them too and appreciate them. No one has to bother saying anything to you. It's wonderful when they do!
