Why do some guys flirt with girls but never actually ask them out or ask for her number?

So I’ve been in this situation a few times. I meet a guy at a bar or social event or etc, and we do some (sometimes very heavy) flirting, or even have some physical contact. But then nothing really happens after that. They don’t ask for my number or ask me out. Why?

I can't speak for every guy but I can give you my perspective. Sometimes I'm not really looking to flirt but if a woman approaches me and she's flirty and fun and good at it, she'll trigger my playful side and I'll go along with it because it's a good time and harmless fun. But I ran into her at a time when I wasn't really looking for a new relationship. I don't want to launch something that will have me tied down and making commitments that will ultimately limit my freedom. Or... I may feel that there is no potential beyond the fun flirty thing we did in the moment. No real chemistry.

2 reasons:


1. They’re only now figuring out how to flirt and don’t realize they need to ask a girl out to continue talking with her and think what they’re doing is good enough to magically make that happen


2. They’re doing it for the love of the game to make themselves look appealing, feeding the ego a little and practicing on a slightly attractive women but nothing too crazy where they feel the need to go all in

Yeah. Its been drilled in our heads not to approach, because it can make girls uncomfortable. I wouldn't risk it until I know more about her, and I would want stromg evidence that there is real interest. Sometimes the settings isn't appropriate, like work or the gym.

Nowadays you gotta be careful with who you associate with and if you are at places like clubs or bars it's for the most part the places all guys, fuck boys or not all know not to have anything serious with people you find in such places.

Ok please define flirting first. Because according to every woman on this platform every man is flirting w them cause he smiled or said hi or opened the door for her. A kind gesture these days seems to be taken as he’s flirting w me.

Maybe he actually likes you and gets shy. He might be a better choice than the ones asking. If you like him it's not against the rules to ask him out

They just want the ego stroke from the attention
