Why does it hurt so much to like someone you’re unsure about?

i am currently fancying a guy but i don't know if he has a girlfriend or if he likes me. but it seems like he's that kind of guy who has a girlfriend, but i don't really know. he's very secretive and he's a coworker. my friend once (probably jokingly?) casually mentions something along the lines of "what if he's off with a girlfriend". how do i overcome this?

You are making 2 major mistakes here.

The first one is that you never ever get too close with a co-worker. Keep that relationship professional and don't ever involve personal feelings. That has nothing but disadvantages. If others find out, you may be mobbed or it will create jealousy because of multiple reasons and the work climate will suffer from it. Also, never get too close to a person that is your superior. That is the worst thing you can do at work.

Second mistake is to let yourself be worked up when you know nothing (or not much) about this co-worker, mainly if he possibly has a girlfriend. You don't want to be a home wrecker, do you?

Others have noticed that you are a little too close to that guy. Back off and move ahead. This is a situation you don't want to be caught in because this is just infatuation and not really love.

I dont think it hurts, I like that feeling. Its unlimited potential; I might fall in love, I might get slapped, I might fall in love then get slapped.

Not knowing is what makes life fun. If I knew everything that was going to happen before it happen life would be pretty boring, fast!

I want to feel like im falling only to find out someone caught me. Thats kind of what real love is... Its the surprise of unconditional acceptance.

It hurts because you aren't receiving any reciprocal love and there is a good chance you won't if you don't ever try to get them to share their feelings. If they are being secretive, there is a good chance they are already in a relationship.
