When to hold a girl by the waist, when to hold them by the shoulder?

When to hold a girl by the waist, when to hold them by the shoulder? Is there an unwritten rule concerning this when taking pictures or walking side by side or a small hug, etc.

(One of my friends pointed it out that I've always hold girls by the side of their shoulder and never the waist)

Nope, in pictures I think its usually fine to hold the girl by her waist. Most of my guy friends do that. The only time I've had a guy hold my shoulder is if they have a girlfriend or something and she's going to give him a hard time, or if he's trying not to start anything, Waist is fine unless you're trying really hard to show that you're not interested

as a girl, I feel weird when I have to walk with a guy with my hands across his shoulders! (actually... I don't think I've ever done that lol)

I usually hold em by the waste when I'm trying to tip em over and tie em up, and then by the shoulders when I'm trying to get them into the trunk. But I suppose everyone approaches it differently.
