Why do girls with boyfriends flirt?

So there's this girl who shares a few classes with me... not really my type, but she's cute, and fun to be around. We flirt, tease each other, and one of her friends has flat out told me she likes me and I should ask her out. She certainly acts like it... one class, she was in front doing part of a project. I grinned and winked, and she completely lost her place for a few moments, all flustered. We've texted, and she's teasing and flirty.

Aannd... I've found out she's got a boyfriend. Not from her, because we were texting, I asked her if she was single, and she magically stopped replying. I asked one of her friends the next day (not the one that told me she likes me) and she confirmed that the girl does have one.

Why do girls do this crap? I mean, I'm not crushed, but she was fun to be around, and she wasn't even my type, but I still felt like asking her out. Why not even just reply and admit she has a boyfriend?

Well I texted her again, "So what's so hard about answering a simple question and texting someone back? I'm not going to bite." She replied, ' :) lol, I know you don't bite. ;) '

Not all girls do that, but yes, I've seen plenty that do too. I think it happens for different reasons, most commonly either the girl is A, bored with her relationship/is getting neglected by the boyfriend and craves attention (reasonable, I suppose), or B, just plain cannot stay faithful. And these girls think it's totally OK to lead people on, not caring that they might, oh I don't know, get attached after awhile. She probably didn't reply because she didn't want you to find out. She might be feeling a little guilt now, too.

Some girls love to flirt because its fun (its called harmless flirting).

They have no intentions of ever cheating on their significant other.

It makes them feel great and flattered, that's why they do it.

Just because she has a boyfriend doesn't mean she doesn't like you. Clearly, she does.

But she knows her boundaries which is why she stopped texting when you asked that question.

So why not just reply that she does, instead of doing a jerky thing like suddenly not replying to texts?

Maybe she got nervous and didn't want to answer. She is probably at the point where she wants to have her cake and eat it too. So at that point she didn't know how to respond.

Many reasons. Some do it because they just naturally have a flirty personality, while others might do it just to make the boyfriend jealous. Some might even do it because they are willing to cheat. But some just do it because they think it's fun or funny, & don't mean anything by it.

This is why you shouldn't mention boyfriends if you are just out for a good time. She just wanted a change of air, and would have loved to g out for coffee with you, kid around, and maybe even a fling... you put the kabosh onit by bringing up the boyfriend!

No girl is ever really taken, but they don't want to be reminded that they have a s. o. already. That makes them feel guilty or embarrassed.

Lol, I don't go out to coffee with people with stuff like that up in the air. I've got female friends I'd be fine going out to coffee with, but I'm going to *know* if they're taken or not beforehand.

That might be a good policy, but 'taken' girls are often the most fun! For one thing, you know they really like you or they wouldn't probably be putting themselves in this situation.

I feel like, if you go after a girl who's taken, it's a lose-lose whether you get them or not. Because if she'll step out on her boyfriend with you, she'd step out on you too.

Well, considering that one of her close friends told me quietly in class that she likes me and I should ask her out... and her general teasing and warm behavior... and how after the class where I winked at her, I chatted with her on the elevator, only for another one of her friends to whisper to her, looking at me, and both of them grin and giggle... and then she grinning, later, said it was about me, and said "well, it started with that wink..."
