I don't like giving compliments just for the sake of giving them, nor do I like or expect compliments just for the sake of being complimented. My favorite boyfriend I've ever had pretty much only complimented my appearance once (in the 4 months we dated) and that was one of the things I loved about him. The one time he called me gorgeous was when I was all dolled up for the prom, and that's how I knew he really meant it.
Like the AU below me mentioned, I'll give a compliment when I feel they deserve one. I won't just compliment someone because they're around, or because they complimented me.
I conpliment people all the time, especially guys I date. In fact, I was usually the only one giving compliments.
I compliment the men in my life all the time---my partner, family, friends, coworkers, etc.
I think it differs from person to person but there is a pattern. Men are more open to speaking their mind & what they think than women.
Society trains everyone, men and women, to pretend that men don't have feelings.

I mean, if someone deserves it, than yes I will. Men give compliments to impress women most of the time.
Women give complements to men usually sincerely.
I don't pile on heaps of praise anymore. I used to- but you know what happened? I stroked egos so much... it worked a little TOO well. So now I am pretty stingy with compliments, it's true.
I give compliments when I feel they're deserved, not because I got one first or because someone needs constant compliments.
I think I give the guys I am into compliments, it works both ways. It feels good.
I love how most of the women only give compliments "when they're deserved" but I bet my bottom dollar they still EXPECT them often, deservedly or not.
I give compliments when they are deserved. Not exactly stringy with them, fairly certain my guy gets a compliment at least once week.
Sorry buddy but I don't think most womans are stingy in giving compliments as I got a lot from them :p

I think a lot of girls are just insecure. Sadly, women are judged on their beauty. If someone tells a woman she's beautiful, it's like a reassuring thing.
