Indirect flirting is what typically girls resort to so they don't have to deal with the confrontation of actually hitting on a guy. They do things that can easily be considered not to be flirting. So saying a guy has a nice hairdo can be considered indirect because if the guy says "Oh you must like me!" she can deny it and just say "I was just complimenting your hairdo..."

Direct flirting is like... going up to someone and making contact physically and letting someone outright know you like them.

Direct flirting is when you make it obvious you are hitting on her by saying something that obvious in her face. For instance, it can be a pickup line (unless you know a good one, just don't) or you can offer her a drink. Making physical contact counts as well.

Indirect flirting is everything else. The stare and look away game. Smiling. Complimenting. Howling.

I would say indirect is casually flirting but playing it cool. Does not show that much interest but still keeps you second guessing. Direct flirting on the other hand is when you just are straight forward. I would say there are negative and positive to both.

One person said it was explicit vs subtle. One person said it was whether the other person knew for sure it was flirting or not. One person said it was whether they were in person or not

To me, indirect flirting is when you leave options open. Basically, you're expressing that you have some interest in her without giving off any specific things such as if you want to go out with her or what you want to do with her.

yeah I guess one is more passive or subtle or implied or ambiguous or vague. The other is direct and obvious and explicit.

Indirect - smiling at someone, complimenting their style, etc

direct - saying "let me get that ass, bitch"
