Most of these dishes I've had since childhood, but others are newer. I'll start off with childhood dishes and go from there.
Sausage & Potatoes
I loved it when my mom made this simple dish for dinner. Sausage, potatoes, and onions is what it mainly consisted of. You'd then put ketchup on top of it to eat once you had it on your plate. This actually resembles closely to a Great Depression dish called "Poorman's meal" which consisted of sliced hotdogs, potatoes, and onions. Needless to say, it's great comfort food even without thinking of where it came from.
Beef & Noodles
I do not eat the beef tips out of this. But I love the egg noodles and gravy with some vegetables (besides potatoes). This consists of beef tips, egg noodles, onion soup, and beef gravy. We'd put pepper on top of it once we had some on our plate. Our cat even loves beef & noodles and will try to steal an egg noodle whenever we have it for dinner.
My mom would make small meatloaves for us to eat when we were younger since we liked more sauce on ours. I'd still maybe eat this. But for some reason, I seem to only remember when we did the big meatloaf. We'd have mashed potatoes, green beans, and any other vegetable with this for dinner. I loved the ketchup glaze on it the most. Sadly, I'm not sure what else she used for it besides ketchup. So, the rest is secret. lol
Once again, I don't eat the ground beef out of this. I love the noodles and creamy mushroom sauce that is in it. Aside from the picture here, I think she used a different type of noodle. This consisted of ground beef, noodles, and cream of mushroom soup. When I was younger, I did have to eat some of the ground beef out of it in order to leave the table.
Scalloped Potatoes & Ham
I still love it when my mom makes this. She cooks this in the oven with a casserole dish. It consists of sliced potatoes, diced ham, and onions. We put pepper on it once we had it on our plate. I don't eat the ham out of it any longer since it tastes too salty for me. But I enjoy the potatoes, onions, and creamy sauce.
Crispy Shake N Bake Chicken
My mom would make crispy drumsticks quite a lot when I was younger. We'd have rice, veggies, mashed potatoes, and hawaiian dinner rolls with them. I still remember when I was 12 and recovered from the flu around Christmas time eating several chicken legs. But you couldn't blame me, who wouldn't be starving after being sick for several days?
We have this type of chicken more often than anything. Whether it's grilled or oven baked, I love it either way. I like brown sugar BBQ, hawaiian BBQ, and regular BBQ sauce at home.
Whenever we make kabobs to go out on the grill my mom makes some veggie ones for me, so I don't have to eat the meaty ones. She puts onions, bell peppers, summer squash, zucchini, and mushrooms on the skewers. We usually have corn on the cob, potato salad, and macaroni salad on the side. If we have company, we might grill some BBQ chicken too.
