Well I'd say go simple if you have never done anything beyond boiling water and the microwave.
Also it kinda depends on what you want to do or make. There's lots of recipes you can find online.

Watch simple tutorials and start with recipes that have few ingredients and requite one pan/pot. Like stir fries and things of that nature.
