Alcohol and western (American) masculinity: is wine taboo for men?

I will never understand why men in America treat wine as a "woman's drink" or a "wimp's" drink. I wonder why most men of eastern cultures like wine more than men of the west.

Wine is one of the first major alcohols mass produced by the human species and has been enjoyed by males for as long as history can remember. So some input would be nice, why are western men so insecure about liking wine?

Dont get me wrong I love a good beer, hard liquor and moonshine, etc. as much as the next person but wine is very simple and has great flavor and can be enjoyed by many. What is so "unmasculine" about it?

It's an interesting question actually. Even I have experienced this attitude in Australia. Actually, just a couple of months ago I was walking out of the liquor store or "the bottle-o" as we call it. I had a six pack of beer in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other for my girlfriend. A car full of young blokes pulled into the parking lot as I was taking the booze back to my car and one of them yelled out at me "I hope the wine is for your girlfriend mate".

My answer is that wine has a reputation as either a high class snobs delicacy or a bottom class homeless person's choice of drop due to its accessibility.
It can be stupendously expensive or cheap shit. So men of a kind of lower middle class either look down on the cheap shit and cannot attain the expensive stuff so they palm it off as a women's drink in a socially uneducated sexist kind of way. You wouldn't walk into a pub with a few tradies in there and order a wine for your own safety. Women of the class would also have the same attitude because it's their culture.

Wine isn't part of the American culture. Beer is.
Wine in Europe goes with meals. It's also a social drink.
In the west beer plays that role. You'd never bring a few bottles of wine on a fishing trip. You'd bring beer, for all sorts of reasons.
First, beer is a self-contained drink. It's in a can or a bottle. You can hold a fishing rod or cigarette or cigar or tv remote control in the other hand. You don't hand a buddy a bottle of wine. You don't hand a buddy a wine glass in your fishing boat unless you're both gay and both your parents went to Harvard.
Wine is for meals when you dress up. When the in-laws come over and you want to borrow money from them. Wine is for when you're up for a promotion and the boss is invited to dinner. Wine is formal. Wine is not for friends. Wine is for acquaintances and in-laws.
Beer is for buddies. If you are offered a beer in the US or Canada, you're in. If you're offered wine, you're out.

Yeah most people I know have a preference with Alcohol even your Hardcore Alcoholics but they will drink what's ever around including Rubbing Alcohol & Gasoline... I'm a Very Picky Alcoholic my beverages had to be Ice Cold High Quality never bought the Cheap stuff. I thought Slumming it was when I bought 32 oncers of Heineken @$2.00 each, meanwhile everyone behind me was buying the Black Label 32 ouncers for 2/$1.00... They said I had a long way to go before I'm Slumming it... Anyhow I never cared for wine I think it's because when I was 11-14 y. o. I drank from a gallon Carlo Rossi that I stole from a Real Estate office they never locked the door and I walked in every evening and took it...

Wine typically has lower alcohol content than most IPAs which is the most common beer here in the US. The most popular wines here are fruity moscato‘s which is sweet rather than bitter. It’s common knowledge as to why women prefer these drinks over men lol. Don’t think it has to do with insecurity as it does preference. Whenever I go to a bar, I’ll usually get harder whiskey on the rocks while my date has always ordered a fruity mixed drink. Alcohol is easier to put down when it’s mixed with a bunch of other shit. It’s simply preference.

If I drink alcohol at all I tend to drink red wine. It's actually the healthiest type of alcohol to drink as long as you only drink it in moderation. What's funny to me is that the guys who say that tend to drink beers which are brewed using hops, which is highly estrogenic - the opposite of manly actually. The reason guys who drink a lot of beer get "beer bellies" is because excess estrogen and low testosterone in men leads to increased belly fat.

I think it's a matter of taste, men prefer beer. Since we prefer that taste. Personally I prefer cider and mead then beer, I can drink wine but I won't unless there is no beer or cider to drink instead. in my opinion why do so many women prefer wine? They must have another set of taste buds.

the wine, depends of type of wine but his % of alcohol is 15 y 22% , that's is more high with many beers and some Scotch.(whiskey).

I do not know why but I look up a website and it says men in America drink beer the most. We do not put label on which drink is for man and for woman because it is about which one you enjoy and not if you are masculin or feminine.

Mostly drinking strong alcohol like vodka, whiskey etc... You will throw up and feel much better if you drink too much.

And i take times off alcohol.
Before 1year i was every weekend spending 300€-800€ for alcohol just for one night. Went wrong path but i realized its waste of money.

When you're younger it's so much easier to quit, cause I used to be able to quit before and not have withdrawals, these days it's like sometimes you don't even wanna drink but you gotta, just to function, sleep, eat, etc.

They have been extremly drinking since they were 15. But i mean extremly like every week at least twice DEAD DRUNK, and next week, and again, and again. And they stopped with alcohol for few weeks then started drinking again.

@blutwolfe But i understand, and anyway im going to stop with alcohol very soon. Probably next week and then ill get back to training. It felt good to be dead drunk every night, and all those partys. But sadly im 77kg atm and i was 90kg before few months. It feels like shit to be above average guy that is hitting gym. Ewww. I used to be best but sadly i chose wrong way.
And some good news today i went with friend for long ride with bikes. We did 4hour bike sprints on mountains and it feels so fucking good when legs hurts.
