What do you usually order when you go our for a nice/fancy meal?

I usually order one of the specials of the night, you're guaranteed fresh ingredients and care put into the dish.
That is a really good point! I hope they have a good seafood special tonight. 😊
There you are! I got the salmon special. It was very good!
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
I’m with you on the high quality seafood, or steak
Surf & turf! 😍
Damn straight!

Something with seafood (salmon, prawn, crab etc). If the restaurant has a really nice aged rib eye on the bone then i would normally order that aswell with some nice vegetables and au jus on the side
Surf and turf?
Got it! I agree!
It depends on what kind of restaurant. My wife and I love ethnic foods - Italian, Thai, Korean, Middle Eastern, Indian, Japanese, you name it. Chinese or Mexican, especially if they aren't run of the mill.
I like southwestern and love BBQ and Cajun.
We love interesting "fusion" cuisine.
I enjoy a really good steak on occasion. But steak dinners have become really expensive. If I eat steak, I'll usually grill it myself. With it, I like garlic mashed potatoes with butter or a baked potato with butter, sour cream and chives, and organic corn on the side.
I'm very partial to seafood, myself. It's my favorite. If I lived on the east coast, I'd eat lobster regularly.
I love crab cakes, scallops, muscles, shrimp, and moist, tender fish both ocean and freshwater.
Japanese, of course, has great seafood. I love Italian seafood like cioppino or something like linguine pasta with steamed mussels, white wine, gorgonzola and light
cream sauce. And I do love a good Caesar salad for starters.
Our 25th anniversary is coming up on the 6th and we plan to go out tomorrow night to celebrate. There are a couple of places not to far from where we live that are in old Victorian homes, have nice atmospheres and really good food. I'll probably have some kind of seafood. They have some really tasty wines, too.
.
We love all those types of food too!
If it is not listed on the dish I would have had them remake it. I did that with brussels sprouts and a Yardhouse. I'm not a fan of a lot of sauces and these were sitting in a pool of this sour white sauce like a doctored mayo of some sort.
For fancy I will usually go with a steak, filet mignon, rare (blue rare if they offer it) or salmon or a tuna steak. A potato dish for the starch, depends on what's offered, I like a good baked potato as long as they don't brine them first. I like the skin and I'd prefer it not taste like a salt lick. Steak or tuna tartar as an appetizer, a salad will usually be something with blue cheese if offered (same with sauces for the steak above), Brussels sprouts if they have them for veg, otherwise greens are good, not fancy but I love me some collared greens (and I'm not even from the south). I avoid asparagus it makes my pee smell.
I like collard greens and I am not in the south either. Asparagus makes everyone’s pee smell. I still like it tho. I prefer broccoli or green beans over asparagus.
Not everyone's there are two genes involved, one gene enables a person to process aspargusic acid and the result is smelly pee.
And another gene is responsible for the ability to smell the byproduct., And you can have one or the other, both, or neither.
I have both, my ex only has the one that allows her to process it.
Genetics is weird.
Very weird. Well everyone in my family gets stinky asparagus pee 😂
I dont go out for fancy meals, the not fancy meals i go out for tend to be steak and chips though last time it was fish and chips.
The waitress asked me 'would i like to try some vinegar?'
Sure.
Hmm, maybe this more fancy than i thought, I guess they make their own vinegar or something here?
When she came back with store bought vinegar i was forced to conclude that she was either the victim or was making me the victim of some sort of marketing bullshit, buzz word type nonsense or perhaps she was just a crazy person?
I dont know, its hard to say, maybe there really are people out there who have led such sheltered lives than they have never tried vinegar?
Well thats an instant classic for a running inside joke now.
Would you like to 'try' some vinegar?
Lmao! She sounds dense.
Depends on where we are. If we are at home, it almost always has steak or bacon in the dish, we are in other parts of the country that are known for particular styles, that’s what we go for. I had salmon caught in a river that morning at a restaurant in Portland a number of years ago. Absolutely amazing
That does sound amazing! 😍
Whenever i go out for a nice or "fancy" meal it's always different. I don't usually eat at the same "nice" restaurant more than once..
So depending on the menu i might get chicken, beef rarely, mac n cheese, crab legs, rice, soup... depends.
But never salad. I refuse to eat out at a nice place and just get a salad unless its a small side.
I like to have a salad on the side but I always get a main meal too. Unless I am really not hungry.
Like my father I'm typically a pasta guy (but I'm not a spaghetti fan, more fettucine, tortellini and cappelletti ). If you take me to a stakehouse, there's an 85% chance I'm gonna order a pasta.
I also tend to order clubhouses a lot.
My true secret all-time favourite food is stir fry.
I like tortellini a lot. What kind of stir-fry?
My dad's stir fry. He still refuses to share it. I think he plans on taking it to the grave. But it's fuckin' awesomme.
Awwwwww
Im really picky so i dont actually eat anything fancy. I do like this one restaurants grilled pork chops tho. It comes with a side of mashed potatoes and limas which are oh so yummy. And its like $40 just for that 🤣 I’m more of a fast food person. I dont eat salmon and I’m not as crazy about steak as i thought. What other fancy foods are there? I prefer soul food
Heyyy pork chop with potatoes and limas sounds fancy. And yummy. And most picky people do not eat limas. I like them.
Pork chop is only fancy when grilled. And it looks so good like this
Yum! I love soul food too. We have a great place near us. Amzing collard and turnip greens, jerk chicken (actually Mrloves2learn makes amazing jerk chicken and jerk shrimp), but the restaurant has amazing snapper and slow cooked beef. Never had anything bad there. They are at our local state fair too. :)
The restaurants dont make it like home tho haha. Last night we made roast with carrots and potatoes, collard greens, cornbread, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, and I don't know what else. Tryna eat good this weekend before my diet starts again Monday haha
Well, "LoverDover" when you order, order for me too. When I go out to Pelican Hill or somewhere here nice, I would order something similar, or the same. I never order red meat etc or high cholesterol shell fish.
'If you will send me that link again, I will send you a link for Pelican Hill Resort and you can browse through it and see where I/we go. You and hubby will enjoy seeing it. Do you play golf, or does your hubby? The Pelican Hill course is a National caliber course.
We don’t golf much. We prefer to be beer caddy for everyone. Lol
Steak house -KC or NY strip, medium well, baked po with the trimmings, onion ring of baked skins app, decent dinner roll
Mexican - Quick- Ham and cheese torta, Lemon Jarritos. Dinner- Taco, quesadilla, burrito plate, empanada for dessert. or. - Veggie fajitas, sour cream and guac, chips. I can make most of them.
Chinese- Beef pea pod, sweet-sour chicken. (I can make both). Pork sub gum (I can't make that one yet).
Italian- Almost anything that isn't fish. ( I can do most of the pasta dishes and some of the soups. ) Cannoli or a girl for dessert.
As a former chef i really don't like eating out. The quality of the food or knowing what goes on in the kitchen turns me away.
There are few good pizza places here and barbeque venues i like to visit in the middle of the night, after workout for a snaccident.😗
Snaccident. 😂😂😂😂
Rib-eye medium rare. A baked potato w/ grated cheddar and 5tbl spoons of melted butter on the side. Steamed broccoli, baby carrots, and cauliflower.
(the butter is so I can make my own mashed potato, and even some supposed fine dining restaurants will serve dehydrated mashed potato).
If we are doing Italian, I might order chicken parmigiana or osso bucco or chicken piccata. At a steak house, I would usually get a T-bone but pork tenderloin is a good choice for me. I try to stick with low carb options.
Osso bucco! Yessss!
Tender and delicious but pricey at my favorite Italian restaurant.
Sounds worth it!
My day was fine. The weather was crap but apart from that it was okay. I didn’t do much today except feed my cats 🥰
That was an answer to another question 😅. I would usually order a steak, pizza or burger.
.. I was a little drunk when I initially answered. 😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 whoops! Go with steak! You can get pizza or burger anytime.
Most fancy restaurants don't have anything I want or they do but don't make it so that it's something I'd want to eat. I used to work at one and the only thing I ever ate there was the buns with butter and a couple pieces of chicken. They're also way too expensive!! Vincent's Pizza will do me just fine!!
I am a picky eater and often don't like the ingredients on fancy food.
I'd rather eat KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco bell (no lettuce or tomatoes) or breakfast food when going out.
Awwww. Fast food? You don’t like a nice dinner? I do love a nice breakfast though. I’ve always been the morning parent to get the kids ready and my husband takes care of them in the afternoon and makes dinner. So if I am in charge of dinner I almost always make breakfast for dinner. 😂
I like spaghetti, but very few places make it the way I like it. They usually have too thick of noodles or use spices that I don't care for. I just don't like many things on the food or the way it is cooked in many restaurants, that is why I don't go very often. I usually end up disappointed, knowing I could have made something at home that I would have liked better.
Good to know that about yourself!
Last time we went out for my birthday and I got a breaded fish stuffed with lobster. It was really nice. I like sea food and a fresh salad or Cesar.
That sounds really yummy! 😍
I’m a steak guy when I go out for a nice dinner.. a nice filet cooked medium, a baked potato, and a tomato and mozzarella salad to start makes me very happy.
Yum! I love a good tomato mozz salad! I like steak too, but I rarely order it out.
Steak generally
Maybe a mixed grill if I like all its parts
If I go Italian I will get antipasto then pasta then a meat course and maybe a dessert if I like the sound of it all washed down with various Italian liqueurs
Sounds like a decadent meal!
Like silk ties and yellow gold
I'm the worst, I'll usually get the cheapest thing to offset what my wife orders. Except when i take her to a sushi restaurant. Then i get five rolls to share, and we decide based on name of the dish.
Lol! Money aside. Order what you really want. Like it is on the house.
I'm a steak guy, flat iron steak in my favorite. Sauteed spinach and caramelized onions to top. Fully loaded baked potato as a side.
You dragged it out of me.
Yuuuum. Much better.
Depends on what type of restaurant we go to. For a general pub meal I usually opt for lamb shank or a pie.
Like shepherd’s pie? I love that. Yum! I am picky about my lamb. Only had one lamb dish I liked. I think Americans do not know how to prepare it.
I'll eat most meat pies but not keen on steak and kidney.
Yup. Kidney and liver I will eat, but not my first choice. Otherwise I enjoy a good meat pie too.
I mean to me fancy food is like olive garden or some nice fish from the frozen section of the store...
When I can though I like to get a nice steak somewhere.
I do like olive garden. Don’t get me wrong (soup salad and breadsticks!) but not fancy. Lol. Steak can be fancy.
Ikr thats fancy food down south 🤣
@DizzyDesii Yeah.
Not up north 😅
Thats true. Vegas had some nice fancy restaurants. I spent $60-100 a restaurant. And that was solo eating and not including the tips lol. But vegas doesn't have the flavor like we do in the south. The food looked great but didn't taste good
I don't really go out to fancy dining establishment, because I prefer cooking elaborate meals at home! I love a new recipe and challenge in the kitchen. If i go out it's to try something new or from a different culture!
Prime Rib with all the trimmings at a place like Lawry's or House of Prime Rib where they wheel out the giant roasts.
Do you like it with horseradish sauce or ju?
Definitely the au jus. Hands down. Mostly due to my fear of the cream. I’d eat a small amount of fresh horseradish.
No wayyy. Arby’s sauce is delish tho. Lol

@K-I-S-S
Hold the onions.
You and my 6 year old agree. But he gets chicken nuggs.

I talked to a guy who works on a fish processing ship. He told me they keep everything they get in the net. He said they take the skate wings and punch out circles in them and sell them to McDonald's.
I doubt those McNuggets have much if any chicken in them. It sure doesn't taste like chicken.
I love skatewing! 😍
It's probably OK, but if I want chicken, then I want chicken.
I do nor have high expectations for MickeyD’s lol. If it tastes edible, all good. Lol
Try a McChicken side by side with KFC's version of the same thing. You'll never have a McChicken again. And the KFC version actually looks like chicken.
I prefer chick-fil-a
I guess the fanciest place I went to was Italian and I had either pizza or pasta. But honestly I don't know if they were even fancy. I am fairly particular about a lot of things tho so I'm not sure what meal options I would pick from.
Not had any cause to go for a nice/ fancy meal either.
Depends. Fancy or Asian restaurants offer dishes I don't cook at home so I try them. I don't order frozen Norwegian cod fillet or pangeus from another continent in restaurant while I'm living 3 km from fishing haven with market.
easily more than 1/2 of the time eggplant made someway or catfish... love my catfish... salmon too!
I like all those things too! I had a really delicious curried cauliflower once.
If it's a no-guilt meal, cost-wise, I'd get a filet mignon. Yumm yumm.
Yup. No guilt get what you really want.
That all sounds good, glad that you have a nice date night, When I would go out I never ordered anything much maybe some fish and coleslaw or fish and baked potato I like my baked potato with hard skins on them
It depends upon the restaurant but I like veggies and fish at the main course.
Me too!
Filet mignon. I rarely eat steak. Like, only when I go out to a nice place. I've tried those cheap places like Texas roadhouse, and outback, never again.
Ewwww cheap steak is the worst
Yes, just like the common fish you can buy at Walmart, like salmon, halibut, sea bass, and scallops. Frozen cheap fish is much worse than a steak.
They are both really gross 🤢
If Thai I get Green Curry and if Chinese I like Peking Duck... I do corned beef and cabbage if I am doing German and lamb chops if Greek & Lebanese with stuffed grape leaves.
For me:
Thai - pad kee mao
Chinese - Szechuan string beans and chicken
German - wiener schnitzel
Polish - gumke
Lebanese - kofta
Afghani - murgh chicken kebob
Indian - tandoori chicken
@loves2learn imma chef every meal I make for others air myself is fancy. If it's my choice I always go with seafood oor ramen! 😍
I love seafood! 😍
In love seafood too
I just like something that I don't normally have or don't know how to make.
I agree with this. Getting something you don’t make yourself usually.
Seafood or steakhouse type restaurants are generally my favorite. I do like Japanese grills a lot too.
Steak shrimp lobster a salad
I love veggies so definitely a lot of veggies. Especially asparagus.
Steak, salmon, lobster, especially if my parents are paying lol
For my parents 50th anniversary we went to a fancy place and got a fillet mignon. Sooo delicious 🤤
Yuuuum! My oldest is too good for the kids menu now. He orders crab cakes or lobster or fish and chips. 😅
Usually some kind of fish or the specialty, especially if its something exotic
Sammmme! 😍
I don't consider that fancy, just nice, but yes, similar.
What is fancy? Lol
Michelin star, 7 course meals, maybe lobster. The 300 dollar stake someone mentioned exists (I have never paid more than 50 euros for it but perhaps it exists and perhaps it is even worth it)
Mmmmmm. Yes. That would be fancier than I described. I’d love to try something like that!
If it is a budget issue, just skip one of the salmon/nice meals and it should cover the costs of those. Maybe two. They are definitely worth doing once or twice in your lifetime (or more often if you earn well)
It’s not the money that is the issue. More time and travel. 😊
Right. Mossels in white wine (with fries) are good.
I adore witlof (but it is by no means fancy).
Where are you that doesn't have the culinary tops?
I guess we did go to some without realizing it. This is what I am talking about. 😂
Mossels, in late October, get served fresh in Belgium (to the best of my knowledge, maybe they sell me the July stock)
Sounds amazing. Maybe a nice boulliabase or cipino.
I will have to ask 🤗
Wish it was invitation to the meal not the question lol
Lol! I made everyone hungry.
Sorry not sorry. 😂😂😂
We like to go to specific places like the keg, Swiss chalet or pho. So we just get what's popular
I like those things too!
I try to get something I never had before everytime I had squid last time I went out it was squishy like a vag
Did you enjoy that texture? I like squid.
Yea and it was super flavorful too spicy ikayaki
I like a nice steak preferably blue, or some seafood, really depends on the restaurant.
Omg that salmon looks so good. I would order the same - some type of fish/seafood
I love see food... When I go for fancy date I order mostly the best meal of that restaurant...
Nice. Going all out. Like a surf and turf? Steak & lobster?
Same!
I'll be ordering (I already looked at the menu) Gnocchi with truffles as the main course.
Yum! Mrloves2learn likes gnocchi bolegnase. (Never can spell that lol)
Depends on where we go, and if it's during the offseason
Love seafood, had shecrab soup and some scallops earlier today
Shecrab? 😂😂😂😂 She sells seashells by the seashore.
Sounds tasty tho!
Delish
I usually order... the waitress around!
I’m sure you do. And that is why she spits in your food. 😒
Are you doing a cliff notes of my update or making one of your own? Lol
“A summary of a much longer work designed to allow a student to quickly learn the key points of the longer work.”
🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I didn’t know you were blonde! 😍
Who is Ryan and why are you mad? 😂
yeah see food is my favourite too. Other things I can cook at home.
Very true!
Prime rib, Yorkshire pudding, mixed veggies, and apple pie with vanilla ice cream.
I usually order me some delicious pasta with grilled chicken. 😋
Depends on the cuisine. Steak & Baked Potato; Veal Parmigiana; Three enchilada dinner; meat lover's pizza. Or breakfast for supper.
Depends on the type of restaurant I go to. If a steak house, filet Mignon, usually fried fish or chicken at other restaurants
Steak covered with onions and mushrooms, mashed potatoes, with brocoli
Or
Seafood
Im with you. I'll have what she's having
Indeed! https://youtu.be/lNEX0fbGePg
I was just thinking of that movie
I could tell lol
Seafood, or occasionally chicken. I rarely eat beef.
Italian, mostly. Sometimes Indian
You like pasta? What are your fave italian and indian dishes?
Im sorry for the late response, I had an exam today and wasn't online for a few hours. Yeah, I love pasta, and lasagna. I like pizza as well. In Indian, I'm a huge fan of biriyani, that too, chicken biriyani, its delicious! Butter chicken masala and chicken tikka is awesome too! I don't know if chefs in America would know how to make those, but it tastes amazing in India!
I have no idea if it’s authentic but I have had biryani, butter chicken and chicken tika and I love it!
That's great! Glad you like it :)
