It's shocking so many here don't know what mutton is. Part of the problem is supermarket promote lamb as the gold standard and mutton as being low grade. In reality lamb, hogget, and mutton are all good but are better suited to different recipes. Ironically a lot of lamb sold is actually hogget.
Another reason mutton isn't as readily available is most of it ends up in restaurants, particularly Asian ones who appreciate it's flavour

I’m ethnically Indian, so fuck yeah! It’s GREAT with the masala and stuff lol. My grandmother makes the best anything mutton related food!
You should totally try out mutton at an Indian restaurant. I don't know how well they make it in the USA though.

I spent months living in Athens and I don't think I ever had mutton there except for lamb ribs which I didn't like because they are usually extra overcooked, dry and stringy, which is the way Greeks make a lot of their meat.
Ironically, Greeks actually eat very little mutton, the Athenian gyros (actually "souvlaki", for some godforsaken reason) is never made from mutton (it's either pork or chicken).
That being said I do like mutton in general, it just has to be a bit older and stewed for me.
It's still relatively common around here in Eastern Europe, but it is going out of fashion here as well.No tastes strange to me. I even tried it for a special occasion dinner very recently and did not enjoy the taste much. Also, it was very fatty. I actually got sick later from that meal, though I'm not positive it was the lamb. I think I don't do well with rich, fatty, or spicy foods.
Well, being that mutton is lamb that is a bit older, I'm sure I've had it somewhere along the line. I've never seen it labeled as "mutton" though. I've had lamb in Mediterranean restaurants and I would imagine that much of it would be old enough to be considered mutton. I like it but I don't go out of my way for it.
Oh, Hell YEAH!!!
I’ve been a fan event since some Indian family-friends introduced lamb-meat to me in their curry. (Until then, I never knew the word even existed, since generally not common in Filipino or U. S. dishes.) Since then, I enjoy it in Indian & Middle Eastern dishes whenever I can!Without a doubt, though it depends on which Mutton you are referring to Sheep or Goat, I prefer Sheep Mutton though Goat is not bad.
Though it is harder to get a hold of today as everyone and his wife seems to want Lamb because of the celebrity chefs cooking it.
I'm lucky I can get Mutton, Hogget or Wether from a local Fell Farm where the sheep hefted to the mountain sides for must of the year, if I cannot get there to pick it up I can have it delivered, it costs me £180-£190 for a full butchered carcase which will last me the best part of 4-5 months.I like it when its a alive and wandering around, always fun. In the summertime there is always thousands of sheep and lambs in the mountains with sheep herders every time I go up.
As for eating it, not really a fan of it.Yes
When you cook it right, at least most cuts, lamb is quite delicious. But really it gonna come down to the dish, the cut, and how well it cooked.I have never found a big slab of meat (not fish) I don't like. Not tiger, not lamb, not bear, not rabbit. I don't understand what people mean when they say it tastes "gamey". WTF are they talking about. It taste like MEAT. MEAT GOOD! ME LIKE MEAT! And I love mutton. That isn't even challenge.
Never had mutton but the Vietnamese around here eat Mutt. So mutton can't be much worse. I think I would rather go with a nice Sirloin.
Lamb meat has a better flavor when the animal is young at slaughter.
Leg of lamb I can take or leave.
Lamb chops on a charcoal grill is the best. I'll take grilled lamb chomps over a beef steak any day.- u
I’ll eat it, usually in Greek restaurants. I’ve never bought and prepared it at home though.
Yes I quite like it, much richer flavour than normal lamb. I've also had goat as that's what they use in a mutton curry especially in Jamaican cuisine, very nice too.
Mutton is good but it needs to be seasoned and served differently to lamb...
No one likes mutton dressed as lamb.I thought only my people call it mutton lol i love lamb not everyone knows how to cook it but it is yummilicious
Only Mediterranean and Middle Eastern people know how to cook mutton. Most Americans and Europeans can't cook it if their life depended on it.
Well there is a difference between lamb and mutton, usually lamb is what’s used in gyros. Lamb over all is better.
It looks good but since you mentioned it was lamb, no. I’m into eating cow meat. I honestly thought those dishes were made from cow meat just by the looks of it.
I have no idea what it is.
I don't get it often but yeah I like it
Of course, I grew up eating it like my whole life
