A homemade chile con carne is one of my favorites. You can keep it pretty low in calories with lean meats, no sugar, you can also exclude the beans or just add a small amount (they're a bit high in calories although a good source of fiber), and go heavy on spices like cumin to pack a lot of flavor without adding a lot of salt and jalapeños for some heat if you like a kick.
I also have a homemade ginger salad dressing I make which I love. I use very little olive oil and more vinegar to keep it low-calorie. It's a little bit high in sodium but not too high and still quite low in calories. I don't have a formal recipe and sort of go by feel but it consists of a small amount of olive oil, grated fresh ginger, a good amount of rice vinegar (almost no calories in rice vinegar), salt, a dash of soy sauce, and also a dollop of ketchup.
Salsa and mustard are also very low-calorie condiments (a bit high in sodium but very low-calorie). I tend to use them a lot. You can add spicy salsa to eggs, for example, and even egg whites minus the yolk to go really low-calorie.
Also just really going happy with spices and experimenting with them (I find Indian dishes are great for learning new spices) can really help to pack a lot of flavor with low-calorie dishes. I also have a Braun immersion blender I love. I tend to just grab some veggies in the fridge and blend them up in the pot in the middle of cooking to make very thick veggie soups. Then I just wing it with the seasoning tasting and tweaking and tasting and tweaking until I'm happy.
Thanks so much! I think I'm going to hit up the spice rack and do some experimenting of my own. I really appreciate the help. One of the things I struggle with is finding good home-cooked meals that are low carb but I'm definitely going to try my hand at some Indian food now that you mention it
One low-carb thing although it's not so low in calories because of the cheese is a keto pizza using chicken breast instead of pizza dough. Basically, take a chicken breast and pound it very thin and flat with a mallet (or lots of other tools work as well), sear it on a frying pan, top it like a pizza with pizza sauce and cheese and whatever other toppings you want to add, and transfer to the oven and bake.
And cheers!
Another trick if you aren't averse to message is that adding message to things like cheese tends to blast the flavor. So you might be able to use less of it if you sprinkle a bit of message on top. You can also blast the flavor of a lot of veggies and fruits with just a small dash.
Oh geez, the site replaces "M. S. G." without the dots with "massage". Annoying! I meant monosodium glutamate, not "massage". :-D
Err, "message". Argh.
i know nothing about calories but how about a lo mein noodle stir fry? you cook some Lo mein noodles , get a skillet with peppers and carrots and ginger and scallions and chicken. stir the pasta in when it's done. i assume making it with brown rice would be less carbs
There was a time VERY long ago I weighed 280. I saw a pic of myself and was disgusted. I decided to start dieting. 1st, realize u didn't gain weight over night so u r not going to lose overnight. 2nd, I immediately cut ALL sodas out of my diet, including diet soda. NO SODA AT ALL... EVER!! I lost 30 pounds in the first month. The next step is different for everyone. For me it was carbs. Some people it's processed sugar. Once I cut carbs out for about a year, I got all the way down to 160. I lost an entire person!!! Good luck, be patient, and figure out what works for your body.
Look up hungry lady salads, they are really good and packed full of nutrient dense vegetables nuts and seeds

Shrimp is low calorie and chia is high fibre and omega 3.
try shrimp tacos but use lettuce instead of the tortilla
fruits and veggies, maybe a bit of chocolate, I think that anything in small enough daily portions would be ok. 😃
