How good are Subway sandwiches?

Speaking only for the cold-cut sandwiches, they are mediocre at best. The bread is average-to-good, but the meat itself is crappy and full of preservatives. The main plus is that you know what you're going to get, and can get the same thing all over the world and know what to expect - but you also know that you're expecting an "average" sandwich at best.

In the Bay Area, we have a small regional chain called Togo's, and they use much higher quality ingredients and put a lot more meat on their sandwiches (though they cost a bit more), and have better bread too. It's a night and day difference, and once you've had Togo's, it's really hard to go back to Subway.

For comparison, here's a Subway sandwich that has more than average meat because it's got 3 types of meat on it:

Can you see the difference? The Togo's has roughly triple the meat, and the quality of that meat is FAR better.

Subway is the McDonalds of sandwiches - the same everywhere, but the actual food is hardly anything to write home about.

I like it fairly well but I've learned to customize it to where I like it (ex: steak and cheese with lots of jalapenos and olives and loaded veggies and tomatoes). The first time I tried it, I was overwhelmed by the options to customize and so I just went very generic and got a very generic sandwich which I didn't find impressive at all. The ingredients and bread aren't particularly fresh or good.

I'd always prefer a great French deli though with chef-designed menus over the customization options or something like Atlanta Bread Company.

Just had my first Veggie Delight sandwich. This is way better and healthier than the regular ones I think. It was awesome. I have retained the paper bag, as it is too good to throw away. Useful for other things too.

Which sauce do you use? As it was my first order, I did not know any of the sauce present in the options. So I took it plain.

But I believe, it would be way more easier to eat with a sauce in it. Italian plain bread was selected by me.

I would usually get the chicken with mayonnaise or the meatball with marinara and ranch or the assorted with sub sauce and I usually used everything free except for the jalapeños and the cucumbers.

Domino's is like the best. Pizza = Domino's.
I need to experience Subway more.
