Why do I get tired when I drink coffee? Is this suppose to happen?

I can drink coffee and get some energy for like half and hour to an hour and then I get tired, more than the normal sort of tired, why?

I have that as well although I still use coffee as a pre-workout. It doesn't keep me awake at night like some people if I have just a couple of hours before.

Sometimes I think I'm wired in a reverse way because depressants like alcohol tend to stimulate me. I get hyper-energetic and goofy and excited on alcohol while coffee tends to mellow me out.

Caffeine does give me a slight energy boost in the mornings and before workouts but it's much more short-lived and doesn't make me hyper and excited like a little kid as alcohol tends to do.

I think in my case it's because I used to be prone to overthinking. I still "hyper-think" but not "overthink" in the sense of veering towards negative or fearful thoughts. My thoughts are mostly cheerful and whimsical now but my brain is still going all over the place at frantic speeds. So alcohol tends to slow down my thinking in ways that make me feel great and even more energetic because I'm no longer fatigued by thinking at a frantic pace. But caffeine still gives me some short-lived source of energy.

Mine too -- I would say 1-2 hours tops before I feel kind of like I need another one if I have to do something physically intense again. I might also have a bit of a crash after like maybe I'd be more energetic throughout the day without any caffeine.

I don't drink coffee but I drink Pepsi and it usually wakes me up.

Yes this is why people drink coffee few hours before sleep. When the effect of Caffeine is over you suddenly come back to your own self and due to sudden change or drainage of the energy you feel more tired than usual.
