What's your opinion on alternative plates?

Some restaurants like to serve food on things other than traditional plates. Driftwood, roof slates, shovels etc. But what's your view? Are they tacky novelties designed to distract from mediocre food? or do they heighten the eating experience?

I have strong opinions about this. Some mindless female tried to pull this shit on me at a baby shower one time: tried to serve me punch out of a potty-training toilet. I lost all respect for her.

My brother-in-law is a chef, and he taught me you always serve food on a white plate. Because, the culinary art is the food itself.

There was a restaurant in town that had these dinner plates made out of wood that had steel plates inside it. They would deliver your steak while it was still sizzling on the steel plate and the wood would keep you from getting burned. It was pretty cool I thought.

I find they try to add to the experience. Like being in a rustic restaurant and they give you utensils you would in a cabin style area only makes sense. The only thing in my opinion I can say since the pandemic started, restaurant food and quality has went completely downhill.
