I don't eat at Subway

Ideally, none of these, but McDonalds is way better than that sh*t at Subway. They give you a bottlecap full of meat, sprinkle it onto a roll, and then charge you $11 for that roll. Subway is so absolute sh*t and I've never liked them, besides their Meatball Parmesan sub. And even that is a rare occurrence, like once a month here in South Korea (and never at all back in the US). McDonalds are more rare then Subway here though and usually there's only one in an entire city or so unless it's Seoul.

The McDonalds here where I live is like a 20-minute drive out of the way and McDonalds isn't worth going out of the way for, so I've only ever been there twice and it's because I was in the neighborhood anyway. And I only ever get the McNuggets (which here in Korea, don't taste the same and are hot ass, so I won't be getting them again). Ironically, Burger Kings are the top fast food chain here, and their nuggets actually look and taste like American McNuggets and you can get eight for $2, so if I did want authentic McNuggets, I'd just got to Burger King.

So in short, if this was back in the US, I'd just be getting five-dollar 12-inch subs from Wawa or Sheetz everyday, as I almost never ate fast food in the US. The rare times I did, it was either Wendy's every 3 to 4 weeks, or Five Guys every two months or so when I felt like spending $15 on dinner. And if Philly had more of them besides just two in the entire city (neither of which were anywhere close to me), I'd be eating some more Boston Market, too. Damn, I kinda miss Boston Market. Oh, and some cheesesteaks, of course. Korean food is absolute sh*t, by the way. It's one of the negatives about living here.
TL;DR Version: I think both Subway and McDonalds suck, but I'd rather eat a Double Quarter Pounder from McDonalds than pay $3 extra for a 'bread sandwich' from Subway.
To me, they're two different types of fast food joints.
Convenience is important to me.
So, I'd choose McDonald's because i can get a Double Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese at their drive-thrus.
Subway restaurants can't have drive-thrus because of the type of sandwiches they make.
Why can't Subway have a drive-thru? I don't understand.
@Jamie05rhs
Subway's sandwiches are more meticulous to "assemble" which will take more time than a fast food burger. I can imagine long lines of impatient motorists angrily honking their horns to speed up the sandwich-making process inside the Subway store.
@DeeDeeDeVour Oh. Okay lol. I've been a sandwich chef before and I didn't think it was that hard. 🤷🙃
I would have said McDonald’s, but over the years here in the United Kingdom they’ve gone downhill and there’re not like they used be when they first came to us. I suppose it varies around the world what they’re like today. But I would give subway ago for a change. Haven’t had for a long time, so worth giving ago again.
Surely McDonalds can win you back, after all, those emotional associations and emotional feels of nostalgia. Baby come back so f springs to mind, anyway man, maybe you just need to find the right McDonald's or the right menu item that you can only get there, that draws you back into the fold of McDonald's worshipper 👀🤗👀
McDonald's, but probably into my older years, maybe I'll either feel more bored with McDonald's or who knows.
But definitely at the moment, McDonald's always wins for me. Unless I'm really like, yeah I guess I'll go for a sandwich elsewhere. I don't know why subway isn't my #1 option, I guess it just never really stands out in my mind.
I can’t decide.
McDonald’s -
Pros - quick, easy to choose from variety of foods.
Cons - too much sodium, cholesterol, bad fats, some items too expensive
Subway -
Pro - Healthy choices and different breads to make your subs. They have coupons to lower the price.
Cons - Too high in cost especially for a 6 inch sub. Also lately their computers are Not taking the coupons.
McDonald’s most definitely
I had one subway employee slightly cough while making my sandwich in 2014 and I’ve never looked back
I just don’t trust it
I have a reason to say Subway that only applies locally. If I go out of town on a trip, may be different.
Mcdonalds because if I wanted a sandwhich I would make a healthier one at home pretty easily. Just get some bread and tuna good to go.
I really have not tried either...
but I would first try McDonalds because of fries and chicken nuggets...
McDonald's, although unhealthy, always scratches an itch. I know I shouldn't have it, but man it's good sometimes.
It's hard to explain isn't it? I feel so similarly, but yet I keep coming back for more every time, and I love it. After all, I guess I tell myself, aren't I a lucky man, where as some countries in the world, are so poor they never have McDonald's and probably never will even have one store, not one, wow 😱😱😅😅😅
Love ya McD's mmm ,😋😋 sorry bro, I had to write that, to the gods up there above, hooray for the existence of such loved brands 🥳
@chocolatesinpockets or worse, McDonald's leaves your country, and they replace it with a very bad knockoff.
I tried subway once... Never again. I just don't like salad on bread; hate the combination. McDonalds has much more things I do like (like their basic burger which has no salad on it, chicken nuggets, fries...).
You've asked this the wrong way! Subway and Mcdonalds are competely different, I can't walk into Mcdonalds and ask for Italian BMT or I can't walk into Subway I can't ask for Big Mac and Fries. It should be Burger King vs Mcdonalds and Subway vs Another Sub place.
I've only ever had McDonalds, so: Subway. It couldn't be worse.
(Do you think I could sell them on that as an advertising slogan?)
Subway. Because I ain’t had it in a while. But it’s a hard choice between the two
At least, Subway barely passes as food. I have no idea what McDonald's is serving.
Subway cause it's actually food. I had a dog and a cat that would not eat McDonald's hamburger. Odd when the dog ate everything else.
Neither, I've tried both in the UK and abroad, was not impressed, even less impressed when tales of their food handling routines came to light, I'd rather find a local greasy spoon, so any cash I'd spend would stay in the local economy.
I love McDonald’s better because they have the best McChickens. And their fries are the best as soon as they come out of the frier. I eat them right away and then start on my McChicken. Subway doesn’t have that many choices.
the subway here isn't very good tbh, its like i ordered subway to eat grass. im here for the chicken :')
so ima go with mcdonalds
It's that Two Double cheeseburgers and a small Fri. And they allow me to go through the drive-thru butt naked. 💞💞
Subway I'd choose, McDonald's is just there and you know the prices
As a last meal? Because the food would literally kill me? I guess McDs. Their soda mixes are sooo much better. I just don’t eat there.
Subway, they have more interesting and varying foods. And it's also healthier.
Assuming that's true, it's still healthier.
Their bread isn't cake-like at all, even if some weird technicality suggests it is. I'd agree with you if you said it's still processed and not as healthy as organic, homemade dishes. But it is still very clearly healthier than McDonalds.
If you think that's healthy from subway then that's your own illusion and buying into what they try to market. But if look into it's really not much different. Common sense in people's brain will tell them well it's more varied so must be healthier but science shows that don't really equate.
This is the second time you've wrongfully substituted my stance on it being "healthier" with it being "healthy." I don't have an opinion as to whether Subway meets some standard of health (especially considering there are many). My stance, which I hope wouldn't need to be repeated a third time fourth time, is that it is most dedicated healthier than McDonalds.
I don't know what science you're referring to, but the scientific and medical consensus is that fried beef patties with small amounts of vegetables is not better than a sandwich comprised predominantly of vegetables, as well as vegetable-rich sandwiches that use lean, non-fried meats.
Like I've already said the sodium levels are worse and calroies are the same and other things with it while it's sugar level not been much different. But hey if you want promote this self belief go ahead. I can tell you though the science behind it does not back your point.
Plus you can actually maximum healthy options (Taking a fruit bag etc) from both if you wanted which again just even out.
Subway and mcdonalds really aren't much different. If you want to argue it having tiny bit less sugar makes it more healthy I will argue the more sodium makes it not so. And such on can be said about other points.
It's about what they put in those things you are associating to been more healthy than mcdoanlds that is tricking you.
Okay, so because sodium levels are supposedly worse, and there's more sugar in the bread, then all the nutrients you get from all the added vegetables is irrelevant, and the leaner meats used also are no different than the fried beef patties, and also french fries don't actually add to the unhealthiness of the meal.
Do I understand correctly?
That's not a false equivalency. Nutrients are fundamental to whether something is healthy. I agree that an otherwise healthy thing can be u healthy when you incorporate unhealthy things, but for you to suggest the added health benefits of what Subway uses is overshadowed by the unhealthy components is just silly, especially in the context of whether McDonalds is or is not less healthy than Subway.
And no, I did not forget the "salad from McDonalds", including "tomato, lettuce, and onions." I've already referenced McDonald's use of these things when I said McDonalds uses "comparatively much less lettuce and vegetables." With all due respect, I shouldn't be needing to constantly hold your hand and correct you on what was said during this conversation.
But as for the sodium levels and sugar levels that you are so wrapped up about (I'll throw in fat levels since we're talking about health, here), it says right here that the Turkey Sandwhich, for example, has 4 grams of fat, 5.6 grams of sugar, and 547 milligrams of sodium.
Link: www.subway.com/.../Product
While the Big Mac has 30 grams of fat, 9 grams of sugar, and 1,010 milligrams of sodium. And that's WITHOUT the fries.
Link: www.mcdonalds.com/.../nutrition-calculator.html
Even the less healthy sandwiches at subway are, or tend to be, overall better. Like the Chicken Teriyaki with 5 grams of fat, 10.7 grams of sugar, and 709 milligrams of sodium.
Link: www.subway.com/.../Product
Oh yeah if you look into it's a tiny bit healthier but it's not by much and I've found links and places that said the sodium is more so I can just do that back. But my point is it's not heathier to the point of calling it so means anything. It's kinda like arguing between how to die which is less painful but they are just the same thing at the end of day aka death.
My point is they are not much different so making that a reason to prefer one over the over is pointless really.
And yes my point still stands about the nutrients if I was to make a cake and put as much as I wanted in it but then that cake is super unhealthy with tons of downsides. It would actually be more healthily to eat cake without any but comes with much less downsides.
Because the way it adds up it's not worth it.
Also less fat don't make it healthier to be clear too. Though we would have to get into the subjectivity of what makes things unhealthily which I cannot be bothered going into. One time I had to try tell someone sugar free drinks aren't healthy and they just couldn't grasp the idea that just because it don't have sugar or much less don't make it healthy.
No, it's not a tiny bit healthier. It's a lot healthier. The Big Mac has over 7 times the amount of fat, just slightly under twice the amount of sugar, and roughly twice the amount of sodium when compared to the Turkey Sandwhich. And this just references how much less of bad things the sandwhich has, it doesn't mention how many more nutrients you get from having a much larger amount of vegetables as well as a healthier type of meat.
And even if "the sodium is more" is it "they use twice as much sodium" more? Because that's a pretty ridiculous claim that would absolutely land Subway into serious legal trouble with the FDA. Not to mention, are these links you supposedly have more credible than an FDA regulated system, especially of a very popular food chain the undoubtedly gets tested on a regular basis?
And not only are your direct statements wrong, but your analogy is wrong, too. Drowning to death or burning alive is most definitely less pleasant than for your head to be sliced off or for you to die in your sleep, despite them both just being "death."
And yes, the concept of "healthy things can be unhealthy when you incorporate a large amount of unhealthy things" does "stand" (as I've already stated) but that doesn't apply here, because as I just showed you, Subway, in comparison to McDonalds, does not incorporate enough unhealthy things to make it comparable to McDonalds. And if you feel otherwise, please show me evidence to support your claim.
And yes, some fats are good, fat to someone who is highly physically active isn't as bad for someone who isn't active at all. But we both know that for the vast majority of people, and in a vast majority of cases, highly fatty foods are less healthy than low-fat food.
Sighs you really don't get it. The last point just falls into that argument I had with that guy saying High sugar less healthy than sugar free when it's just not true lol.
Welp I will leave you to your thinking but don't blame me when a doctor tells you both are super unhealthy and would advise you to just pick neither.
McDonalds, because the only fast food thing i like is their hashbrowns
Depends on my mood, but i definitely eat Subway more often.
McDonald's when I feel like crap food. I haven't eaten subway in probably 10 years
That’s kind of hard (AAHO) but I’m pretty confident that the chances of getting diabetes eating soubway are way lower than Mickey Dees so I choose Soubway.
McDonalds. Subway is a little better. But still has a lot of carbs. If I'm going to eat something bad for me it's going to be a salty greasy burger and fries.
I like both, but I prefer Subway. The food is more delicious.
McDonald's tastes better, Subway is less-unhealthy
They each have their own place and time.
Do not care for either.
Subway especially the cookies.
McD’s cuz i’m lovin’ it
Subway by a landslide.
Subway because it's healthy and I love sandwiches.
subway is 100x better.
McDs because i get fries
None of them actually.
McDonald's. They have really good fries.
Subway because I am not allergic to the bread
McDonald's🍟
I love burgers
Somewhat healthier
subway
McDonalds.
I like them both.
