Quite thick. The thicker they are, the more tender the meat will stay in the centre. And with beef, you don't have to cook completely to be food-safe. So I like not too large in circumference, but nice and plump.

@JPresidente I've only seen a few episodes of The Office but I'm sure I won't know the one. But say it anyway. I doubt I'll be offended. I might not laugh though, but that's ok.
Just tell me if it's a Carell or Krazinski line. They're the only two I know.

I use a simple burger press I picked up my local bargain store, I can’t remember how much it cost me, but it’s so quick and easy to use. The thickness is preset by the device itself, but they’ve always turned out okay for me.

It depends on the meat I'm using for the burgers XD.

If its a pure exotic meat I'll make them thinner

If I'm using a cheap burger mix I'll mix a ton of spices in and make it thicker.

A burger should be about a half pound and 25% bigger around before cooking than the bun. That’s a FAT burger if you buy the cheap buns at the store. Ell oh ell!

I do not like thick patties at all, because the meat doesn't get cooked very well. If I want a thick burger, I just stack 2 thin patties on top of each other.
