But have you ever eaten a meat dish and wondered what it was? Perhaps something in a sauce or chunks in a pie?

Some people might not be able to recognize the meat they are eating, even if it is a relatively common type of meat like lamb.
Firstly, some people may simply not have had much experience with different types of meat, if they come from a cultural background where certain meats are not commonly consumed.
For example, if someone has only eaten chicken, they might not be able to identify a steak simply because they are not familiar with its taste and texture.

Secondly, sometimes the meat has been seasoned in a way that makes it difficult to recognize. Or sometimes, not washing the meat properly or some types of bacteria can alter its flavor and texture, making it less recognizable.

Also, sometimes meat simply doesn't have a distinct enough taste for a less developed palette to discern what it is, which can make it more difficult for them to identify. Taste perception can also be altered by smoking, desperation, or foolish feelings such as love. Sometimes people can even be fooled by the taste of something that isn't meat at all, such as this British puffed cheese.

In summary, there are a lot of reasons why someone might not be able to recognize the meat they are eating, so if you're ever confused, just ask what type of meat it is.
I was involved in a few projects in China that involved dinner banquets with our Chinese hosts. There were several times when I didn't know what I was eating, and in hindsight, it was probably better that way.
I’ve had a lot of different animal meats. But it’s always nice to ask.
I don’t know what pork tastes like since I’ve never had that.
I’ve had the usual (beef, lamb, poultry cuts) but I’ve also had buffalo, bison, elk, camel, turtle, frog, shark etc.
After a while, they all taste like either beef or chicken.
Yeah. I wondered what a polish hotdog was today.

I don’t like eating things I don’t know what they are. It could be horse meat alligator meat, possum meat, or armadillo meat. Or rat meat. I only eat top-of-the-line cow meat or Purdue chicken. Or high-quality turkey meat and ham
in Mexico... I just don't ask, I really don't want to know
in the USA... I already know it could some synthetic substance that will be difficult to spell anyway
hahaha... I would definitely ask if it came wrapped like the example photo!!
I try to stay away from anything that gets buried in some sauce or other stuff so that you cannot tell what it is.
I’m a muslim When I was in Europe I always asked because they always ignored my request to remove pork meat.
You don't need to kill animals to eat that.
I can give you it alive.
