We used to do it every year. Get two dozen eggs and decorate them with crayons an dip them in dye. I would have them in my lunch for the next week or so. This year we have to cut back. They are almost 7 bucks a dozen and it is just too much.

sounds fun, maybe can do that this week as have a big group together.
try to drive around out in the country for eggs grown by farmers or garden centers that have chickens. We found them sometimes $3 doz for good sized eggs. You can even get to know the chickens by name and maybe feed them your table scraps... a win win... cause those chickens will eat anything, including other chickens. It's basically a freakin' mini t-rex.
but then again, you've gotta spend $10 in dino poo gas to get there. Frick, maybe ride your bicycle? Eggs from the farmers will keep outside the fridge for quite a while, don't recall how long, so you can stock up to some extent.
This is eggselent advice... unless you are a chicken or identify as a chicken, then it's offensive.
Of course, no one said you can't eat the eggs after you color them. I keep boiled eggs in the fridge for cobb salads, when I don't feel like cooking breakfast, snacks, so on and so forth. They can be red, blue, green or whatever, it'll make it more novel for my kids :)
$7 is too much for a little fun? First, have an Easter egg hunt. Then you can make egg salad for lunch and deviled eggs for dinner. What you save in dinner goes a long way with the fun you have making them - and double that if you have grandchildren. For the hunt make sure you chew Double mint Gum. You will be doubled over with laughter.
Yes, I'll still color eggs. I always host Easter so I send some home with everyone and there's still plenty for salads or just eating.
These are the eggs we colored last year. The blue ones were my favorite.

Normally we use food dye, soak them in water as a family tradition. Then they get hidden around my parents farm house for the kids to find them.
Then the hard boiled eggs are used in SOS for a family breakfast.
This year, cause my mom passed away recently not sure what is going to happen but there is also a ton of snow still around the farm house so I jokingly said. No need to dye the this year, lets just hide them and make the kids really search to find them.
They have chickens, cost isn't a big deal... just go to the hen house and get them.
Yep. I have 2 dozen set aside for coloring. On Easter, I'll make some of them into deviled eggs and probably Monday the rest will be made into egg salad sandwhiches.
i completely forgot that Easter was even coming up and just got a ton of flashbacks to my childhood
Nope! I could never get into doing that. I tried it once, and the eggs just got old and went in the trash.
My Mom always bought us big ole Easier baskets from the See's Candy store. That's the ticket for me.
I'm doing so at work tomorrow and I'm making coloured eggs for lunch.
Nope some of our chickens are Easter Eggers and lay colorful eggs.
No dye needed
I did that as a kid, we bought edible food dye that you can eat. It was very fun and we did similar things in grade school.
I haven't done that since I was a little girl.
that was a long time ago. Who can afford to?
I haven't done that in ages. Might be kind of fun.
We might but, yeah, cost of everything impacts how much we do.
Yup. Mom and I have the kool-aid for it. I love hard boiled eggs and deviled eggs!
We are making hard boiled eggs but only a dozen. We stopped coloring them years ago. I always got stuck doing it by myself so we don't bother anymore
No. I observe Ramadān, not a pagan holiday, memorating a false spring goddess. Furthermore, I’m vegan.
I am not, but I’m buying the cheap eggs for deviled eggs. Sorry chickens.
I did that with my kid she's to old to do it now
I am often too clumsy to handle eggs.
It is unlikely, my kids are a little older.
I have never celebrated Easter.
No I eat the eggs my ladies give me
Yep.
