Good Friday and the Fridays throughout Lent we always go out for a fish fry. This is my husband's family's tradition and I think its fun and look forward to going and visiting with everyone.
I believe my husband's family just enjoys getting together and continues this tradition for enjoyment rather than the religious aspect of it.
When I was growing up, we had fish every Friday. My mom wasn't a seafood eater (maybe my dad wasn't either), so she always made frozen fish sticks. So it wasn't particularly enjoyable. I don't know if the Church thought it was a penance or what.
Once I grew up, fish and especially shellfish became my favorite kinds of meat.
Since I'm no longer religious, I don't give any thought to Good Friday, but I'd be happy to eat seafood anytime. 😃
I did, I had stuffed walleye. Swiss cheese, baby spinach, asparagus, cranberry sauce, and slivered almonds. I drizzled a reduced white wine butter sauce over it and sprinkled with Bay seasoning.
Where I'm living there is the same traditions with eating fish at Fridays especially at Friday ( Great Friday ) before Easter Monday. Well, I had duck breast in sweet-sour apricot sauce and my place in hell is already reserved now.

A bacon cheeseburger is my official Good Friday meal & it dates back to my ex & how she was slowly trying to change me during the whole you can’t eat meat of Friday thing.
I said Flock You I’m going to get a cheeseburger.
I grew up as a Lutheran, and nobody told me that you can only eat fish on Good Friday. I knew Catholics abstained from meat on certain days, but I've never been informed about not consuming meat on Good Friday.
So did I make a mistake with those chicken leg quarters I had Friday night? 🫤
I eat meat on good Friday and so does grandma ever since she finally realized there is no god.
Strangely my lesbian aunt is strict about good Friday though…
My parents are not religious so I do not know what the normal Easter traditions are. I know some things about the bible, but not much about religious cultures. I think it’s cool though.
No, I don't care for fresh water fish and seldom eat anything that lived in the water.
It's more of a Catholic practice here in the US, and many observe it.
Nope guess I’m going to hell because I had bbq pork chops and a baked potato😋
I grew up always eating fish on fridays, even in boarding school, it was run by Jesuits. My Mum is a heavy holy roller.
Fish on the Friday has its roots in Egyptian paganism. Christ was the Lamb of God. I have no problem having lamb on Good Friday
Sometimes. My preferred this is cheese ravioli though. But this year I made gnocchi and cabbage salad.
No. But we do go to church's fish fries and buy meals from there whenever they have them.
No, simply because i am vegetarian and don't eat meat or fish all year.
No, this year had it on Thursday. I don't remember the church I grew up in ever saying anything about fish on Friday - I think it's a Catholic thing.
When I was younger, we did eat fish on Good Friday, but I don't do that anymore.
I have in the past but not this year. I had scrambled eggs and toast.
I did, a battered fillet almost as big as my forearm
Yeah and also usually on Friday’s in lent because no meat
We have pizza on good Friday. My family doesn't like fish but I do
Yes I ate fish on Good Friday, but then I usually eat fish on Friday and at least on other day a week, either from the chippy or fresh Filleted, and Battered or Poached with a Parsley/Butter sauce.
Hell yeah. Friday is fish fry day. No holiday is getting in the way of that.
I don't eat fish on any Friday, Good or bad. I don't eat fish on any other day of the week either.
