On Good Friday, it’s a Christian tradition to eat fish rather than meat. According to Biblical accounts, Jesus sacrificed his flesh on "Good Friday". This is why traditionally, people abstain from meaty flesh on Good Friday. Fish is viewed as a different kind of flesh and so is favored over meat on Good Friday.

Jesus was executed on Good Friday and died as blood sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins. On the anniversary of Christ’s death, the Christian church, both Catholic and Reformed, encourages followers to abstain from eating meaty flesh of warm-blooded animals on this day.

The Roman Catholic church’s official position is a combination of the 1983 Code of Canon Law and the decision of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; being no meat on Fridays of Lent. That tasty fish is your best option during Lent.

Marinated Grouper is waiting in the freezer for me to fire up the grill. Since they didn't have gas grills in those days, my wife if going to grill it over wood.

I won't eat fish that looks like fish. Got skin, a head, a tail, bones... I won't eat it. If it is battered and fried and comes with tartar sauce and some chips/fries and doesn't taste fishy I will happily eat it. But I don't care what day it is. I don't follow any religions.

Not really. I rarely eat fish and "Good Friday" is like any other day to me.

When I was growing up, I ate only fish of Fridays, then only Fridays during Lent. Now, I no longer respect that. I eat whatever I feel like any day of the week, any time of the year.

Interesting fact: The early Christian Church established a rule that only fish could be eaten on Fridays because many Christians were fisherman, or lived in fishing towns and villages, and the rule helped the fishermen sell their weekly catch.

No; it always struck me as half-assed. Either don't eat meat, or don't bother. In places where fish was all that was available (including much of Italy at the time), it was deemed "not meat", and in places up in northern Canada, so was beaver; I can allow for situations like that, but I've never been in one.

Then again, I'm not particularly rigorous about meat on Fridays during Lent anyway, so...

No, hate fish when I was 8 year old went fishing with my dad. I caught a nice size fish, my dad said watch how you take the fish off the hook. Did I Listen NO and that dumb fish stung me, so hated fish ever since.
