Will this prolong the taste of my drink?

If I turn and flip my bottle of soda, over, will it take longer to go “flat?”

-I figured the carbonation 🫧 leaves the bottle every time it’s opened and also, even when it is closed- the carbonation still somehow makes its way out (due to the broken seal). 🍾

If the bottle is flipped and closed right after each use, is it safe to assume, the carbonation will float and linger at the bottom of the bottle (the new top 🔝) and no longer escape?

Thoughts?

(I also figure I shouldn’t breathe in when I drink from the bottle, but let the soda pour into my mouth, so that I don’t somehow breathe ‘in and out,’ the carbonation, leaving only the liquid as a remainder).

I think it has more to do with the amount of new air you introduce to the bottle each time you open it and close it. The carbonation has to saturate all that new air trapped in the bottle which causes it to flatten. Caps have a thin flap inside the cap that helps reseal the bottle when you cinch the cap, so carbonation loss should be minimal

If you are using plastic, you squeeze the plastic so the pop comes up to the top of the bottle than you put the cap on tightly. This way it keep the air out a little better.

Don't think so, it's the motion of opening the bottle repeatedly that lets out the majority of the carbonation. If your sodas are going flat before you finish them it's best to buy smaller bottles or single serve cans.

Just seems that single servings are stronger in taste, than shareable sizes, but they still flatten quickly.

I feel like cups with straws also stay carbonated longer than either of the bottle/can formats. Do you think this is a good alternative?

If you want to use straws sure. The over use of them can give you smokers lips though

Ylthe secret is to keep. it as tightly sealed as possible andvkeep it very cold as gases such as carbon dioxide want to stay in the liquid when cold and under highbl pressure.

I think it would go flat at the same rate right side up, or upside down.
being upside down it would get moved around a bit more than right side up when you pour it, so that will aid in it losing its fizz.

So I had a personal serving- 16 fluid ounce Pepsi, and let it sit out (still sealed) overnight. Opened it earlier today and had a piece of chocolate with it. (I worry the results are tainted because anytime saliva or any other food material gets into soda- I do notice it also goes flat quicker. Would have to try the experiment with just the soda and avoid mixing it with anything else).

Either way- Two thirds of the fluid was consumed and one third was left over, and the bottle was left sitting flipped over and sealed closed. When opened again later in the evening, the soda was completely flat 😂😭.

Many variables seem to interfere:

Contaminants
Size/volume of the bottle
And whether or not a person inhales while they drink the carbonated substance.

In order to truly know, multiple tests would have to be carried, and control groups would have to be put into place.

It’s difficult since indeed carbonation is difficult to see with the human eye, so the amounts are rate on sound and taste ofc.

If there was a way to measure it or see it with some special light, then the whole test would be easier to read.

Soda bottles are at quite a high pressure so I doubt there is CO2 leakage issue through the cap. but you will lose pressure each time it is opened.

On a tangent it seems to me that cans taste different to plastic bottles. I think cans must be pressurized higher but can't prove that.
