How do you make your coffee and what is something you think is important for you in a good coffee?

So there is a lot of varieties on how to make coffee and many people claim their variant is the best for many different reasons.

There are coffee makers, there are capsule coffee maker, dripping coffee maker, coffee maker that grind the coffee for you and pad coffee maker.

Than there are also a huge variety of different methods to brew coffee without a machine, like a french press, a variety of pour over gadgets, or just the often named turkish coffee variant.

A lot of those have their advantages and disadvantages. From easy to use to some that require a bit of knowledge, some are quick and have your coffee ready in a few seconds to those that not only take time but require you to do something in that time as well.

I personally put value on fair-trade beans and a local roast, but not any cheap but one I made good experiences in the past.

For brewing I really dont like most pads or capsule coffee maker. I dont like capsules because of the waste and I dont have much variety in pads and rarely made good experiences with pad coffee makers. I really like my pour over coffee with a coffee dripper even though it takes it time that you can't do something else. Also its not good for making more than one cup at a time.

For those really experienced or knowledgeable: I use a no name dripped for which I need to fold the coffee filters but thinking about switching to a hario v60, is it worth it? Its not that expensive but is it worth it or is there not a huge difference? Do you have any recommendations?

The best coffee has a beige crem on the top that is creamy and bittersweet. An electric coffee drip doesn't get hot enough (only gets to 175f, when it needs to be 210f.) unless you have a temperature controlled one. Espresso is great for peessure brew, but you still want temperature controlled. Percolator coffee pot is best brew i have found so far. Super smooth texture to the coffee with a slight crem. Pour over coffee requires technique, so outcome varies. Turkish coffee is your best bet since it brews it with the coffee grounds in the kraft... only problem is tou want the coffee burr ground so fine it dissolves in. French press is fine but unless the beaker is kept warm it cools down as it brews making it harder to get a good coffee crem and smooth taste... plus some grounds tend to make it through the mesh...

I used pour over coffee now for quite some while and only recently learning the techniques. I mean even if you dont do everything right it is still a good quality compared to a lot of machines, but now knowing what I do it does make a huge difference.

First off, I use whole beans from around the world in different roasts and grind them in our burr grinder. I do use an electric drip coffeemaker but it has a slow pour (i.. e., extra strong) setting I engage to get more taste (and caffeine) from the beans. That's for the morning coffee ready for when we get up.

The "formal" or evening coffee, I use a large French press. Thinking of looking more into the pour-over method.

Just started looking in an expresso machine so we don't have to buy our breve mochas anymore. Only Starfucks around here and they are tolerable at best.

Coffee bean quality is most important factor. More expensive coffee sorts have usually much better aroma and more 'sana' [fatty foam] on the surface while brewing. Espresso machines squeeze most sana out of the beans and this is best brewing method in my opinion. Nevertheless I would choose high quality coffee made with filter over a low quality coffee made in espresso machine.

I make my coffee with a tea pot style machine ( the one that you unscrew, fill up with water and coffee, screw it shut and place it on the gas). It takes approximately 10 minutes for the coffee to boil up. My number one tip for all espresso lovers is to drink coffee without sugar. It's the only way you get the real taste and benefits of the shot of coffee.

I've done tons of research and have talked to many people.

I've even stooped to getting Starbucks twice in the last 25 years.

A cheap MR. COFFEE drip coffee maker and some strongly brewed robust Eight O'Clock Colombian Peaks ground coffee is my magic formula

Two minutes to prepare, 15 minutes to being ready.

Yesterday's microwaved leftovers will get me through that 15 minutes of wait time for the fresh stuff.

What is important? Robustness, robustness, robustness.

There really isn’t anything wrong with Starbucks. People are overly snobby about it. Their coffee has really improved over the past year or so. It used to be disgusting.
The Starbucks in Milan is always very busy.

I rarely drink it but when I do, 1 teaspoon of instant coffee, 1 teaspoon of hot chocolate powder and half a teaspoon of sugar. Half milk and half water.


Since I barely drink it, I have no idea what makes a good coffee. To me, as long as the coffee doesn’t taste extremely bitter or burnt and it gives me caffeine, then that’s good coffee lol.

2.) Keeping your coffee maker clean. It may seem like a small, insignificant thing, but it really does make a difference. When your coffee maker is clean, your coffee tastes better. 😌

Yes this is important when you use a coffee maker and sometimes I am scared to know how many people dont clean it regularly. Whenever heat and water is involved its like perfect for things you dont want.

Iced coffee Always confuses me. There are so many different variations that this could fit to. Is it like a cold brew coffee, an affogato, or just brewed coffee with served with ice or cold?

There are some cold brews out there, but I don't know much about them. I keep it simple - I brew a coffee that I like, put it in a pitcher in the fridge, let it cool down, and have it over ice with milk or cream, and a bit of sugar.

I like to buy whole beans from independent shops and grind them at home…. for the smell more than anything

I use a Keurig (capsule) for coffee. It gives a fresh brewed cup every cup.

My favorite coffee to make at home is a pad type called Senseo (most Americans don't know that brand). Senseo coffee is soooo good, but it's not good in the U. S. I bought a machine here and it was terrible! Possibly something to do with the different voltage, but I'm not sure.

Honestly, plain drip coffee from an electric coffee maker tastes pretty good and it's simple to clean. If I had more free time, french press does taste better though.

Not sure what you mean by pad and capsule coffee maker. I use a Keurig and usually brew either Barnie's White Christmas or Gevalia mild roast. I use stevia as a sweetener and half-and-half.

Electric filter coffee maker. Modified so it keeps the coffee hot. I like a good ground coffee like Jamaican Blue Mountain. Strong and black without any sweetener.

in my case is mocha... so yes , it would be a cold brew, and then the ice is added, some chocolate and vanilla
