I need a good gin and tonic repice. Or, do I really?

As you can see, my spelling in my question (which I intentionally left wrong) leaves little doubt as to my present state of inebriation.

I've been chasing a good gin and tonic all night.

My quest has been of an especially not-pleasing one, gustatorily speaking (I'm usually a bourbon neat guy).

The alcohol is doing what it does, though, I will say that.

I've never actually made a gin and tonic. They have heretofore been plopped down in front of me, with a "Here you go", from the bartender.

Who frickin' knew that such a delight requires a bit of knowledge in order to reproduce it.

I sure didn't.

Is there anybody out there who can help me?

Yes, I've duplicated Tangueray's recipe.

Either it's not the right one or I screwed it up.

I hate juniper-ish gins.

That said, with Asian food a Bombay Sapphire East, and tonic is peppery and lemongrassy, which pairs well with anything with a spicey or sesame taste

Vinepair said it better than I can, so I'm cutting and pasting here:

Hendricks is my go-to gin since it's in pretty much every store out there.

Silo Reserve Gin is a brown gin that I haven't found in a couple years, but if you can find it, it's aged in bourbon barrels and tastes like a nutty Cinnabon.

Monkey 47 I think I'm out of... it's floral and fruity with a mild tartness to it. I think it's quite refreshing.

I only go with Q tonic unless I have an artisanal batch... though I've contemplated making my own since I read this, as I tend to prefer the taste of high quinine tonics.

I just remember a guy I used to work with, plopping 'em down in front of me, saying something about Tangueray and tonic, and then he'd say, "Here, take a hit of this smoke", so I never learned how to make 'em. I just remembered that I liked 'em, and I'm trying to recreate the magic of Danny's gin and tonics.

I've been failing miserably, but like I said, the alcohol still works its wonders, leaving me less likely to succeed on subsequent attempts.

I had quit drinking for many years. I've lately climbed back on that habit.

I'm having some fun while I can keep it up.

I had one gin and tonic where the last few swallows started tasting correct.
Now, how I factor in the amount of ice that had melted to reach this palatable stage remains to be evaluated by my brain for recreation in the future, what with needing to remember to add a spritz of water to a new drink and all. But, like I said, the alcohol had been working its wonders on me, so that meant that the not-rememberer part of my brain had kicked in and was working really good.

Well, first, you get a nice tall glass!! about a 20 ouncer. Then you toss in about 5 ice cubes and then drown them with A&W root beer!!

If you want to get boujie about it, you can order quinine syrup, mix that with Gin and carbonated water. But otherwise gin, tonic water, and lime is all you need.
