I am looking for the best American potato salad recipe?

Hello,

I'm from Germany and we have two different kinds of potato salad here - with or without mayonnaise. That divides our nation.

Of course, I do not want to deprive you of the recipe.

Potato salad with bacon
-----------------------------------------

1.5 kilogram potatoes
1 onion
1 tablespoon mustard
1-2 teaspoons of bouillon/grain broth (powder)
150 grams of bacon, streaky
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 pinch of sugar
salt and pepper
Parsley

Boil potatoes, peel and cut into thin slices.
Finely dice the onions and add to the potato slices.
Dissolve the bouillon in 150 milliliters of hot water
Mustard, sugar, vinegar, salt and pepper to it
Put everything over the potatoes
Dice the bacon and fry until the fat exits and the cubes are crispy
Over the potatoes give me the hot fat
Mix everything and let it infuse. Tastes very good the next day.
Garnish with parsley
Tastes good even warm.

Au contraire, in the Midwest US potato salad is practically a food group. It appears at about every pot luck dinner, picnic, and other gatherings.

Our local grocery store has a great deli, they make many different kinds, but my favorite is Dawn's.
But like most foods it is very subjective.

I don't know a recipe off hand, but some of my ancestors are Slovak and make great potato salad. Every Eastern European country makes it a little different.
