Are you a bad person if you tip bad because you’re broke?

Bad tippers are frowned upon but what if that person is just broke and doesn't have a choice?

I don't think that makes you a bad person.

I personally don't like the way tipping works in a lot of places around the world: making the tip and the ammount mandatory removes the whole point of you leaving a little extra as a thank you for someone who took care of you while in their establishment.
Now it's just part of the bill, you could say it's a mandatory 10 or 20% entry fee to the establishment paid on top of what was ordered. Not a personal choice and sign of gratitude.

So I prefer places where tipping altogether is optional and not overdone.

If you have the means and did truly enjoy the service you leave a little something.
If not you walk out with your dignity and not feeling like such a horrible person for having paid just what the food/drink cost

This is another reason why we are not supposed to judge other people

This is another reason why when people put you down or talk bad about you that you should not listen to them

This is another reason why when you do good and you know you at least tried you put in the effort to say thank you it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks or says except for what's inside your heart

As long as you know you've done the right thing as well as you possibly could in that moment that's all that matters it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks or says so don't beat yourself up for it smile and say I apologize I'm not who I would like to be today but I did my best I will eventually get there I'm a work in process

No I don’t think you’re a bad person. Realistically it is on the employer to pay their workers a fair wage and if that means charging more for meals then so be it. Not pass that responsibility onto the customer where now it’s the customer who is ‘bad’ for not leaving a large tip and not the employer who should be paying higher wages to begin with. There are a ton of jobs where someone is providing customer service, cleaning up after people, etc but they do not get tipped for it.

please do not feel guilty for tipping low or not tipping at all. tipping is always optional! ! ! other peoples salaries are not your responsibility. if you really liked the service, then tip. if you don't have much money, don't tip. we are in a terrible economy right now. i stopped tipping all together except for when i'm actually served and even then i'm just... so sick of tipping culture.

If your a billionaire and give $0.50 your a bad tipper but if your homeless and give a $0.02 tip your a good tipper. The bible says your rewards for charity are proportional to your wealth and poor people that donate the same amount as rich people get bigger rewards then rich people who donate money cause their sacrifice is bigger.

My country has tipping culture but it's very much optional.

While it sucks most wait staff jobs don't pay well or have exploitative bosses, the burden of paying your staff a living wage doesn't fall on the customer.

If you can't tip, you can't tip. It isn't on you if the business can't pay their employees.

But also... I don't know, sometimes wait staff do terrible shit to food of people who don't tip. So just be cautious.

No, tipping used to be illegal, and it honestly still should be.
When you pay for a food or service, that money is supposed to go to employee paychecks, but instead they get paid almost nothing in most service jobs, so they rely on tips instead.
Restaurants should have to match minimum wage laws like every other establishment.

Why would that make you a bad person? You gotta survive to and not everyone can give a good tip.

The way I go about it is if the waitress/waiter was nice and did a good job, put in the effort then I'll make the effort to give them the best tip I can according to the wealth I possess at the moment.

Tipping is a terrible custom. Why should the customer have to stress about figuring out and having to pay a tip when that is the employer's responsibility? It's just stupid. It should be built into the cost of doing business and the price of the meal or other product just like everything else you buy.

Nope. Simplest example is the widow in Luke 21. She gave two small coins, all that she had. Then the rich came and were boastful about the gold coins that they gave, which they would never miss. Her giving, while miniscule compared to theirs, was a genuine sacrifice for her. Theirs was the equivalent of Elon Musk leaving $1000.

Now that does not mean the server will understand, but no, it does not make you a bad person.

The intention is what matters. Afterall you give what you can give. I personally prefer not to tip if I don't have enough with me I've seen people tipping 20cents in Europe I think that's offensive.
