Are there certain things you buy, that you just won’t settle for anything but the best?

I asked a friend on here this morning about tools, whether hand tools or power tools. He said he only “buys the best”. My boyfriend is like that with alcoholic beverages. I’m like that with clothes and certain foods. Is there anything you will not settle on second best?

• That goes for most things I have. They don’t need to be top of the line, but I rarely get non-consumables in stores because almost everything new is crap. I often comb ebay and sometimes etsy to find stuff I want. I would still be combing Kijiji had a site update not stopped it from working on this tablet. I have a Craftsman jigsaw that is about 30 years old and a clone of the DeWalt DW-318 and is probably the tool I use most often. I have a Craftsman Commercial 3/8” variable speed reversing drill made in 1977 that was still sealed in the box when I got it. DVD players came out as manufacturing quality was going to crap, so I went through quite a few players and a lot of painstaking research before selecting the Pioneer DV-414. I have one that was made September 1998 and is still going strong. It was made in Japan and as far as I know they didn’t sneak any Chinese parts into it as was done with my two-disc Toshiba. I would currently be using a solid maple console TV made in 1976 had I not pulled the control panel recently for dry solder joint repairs and a VHF tuner retrofit.

Tools are so cheap I'buy them for one job. Depends on often you expect to use. Buying a tradie level tool and using for a couple of jobs is over investing.

I did buy an oven that was the best - has a lot of functions over convection, steam, microwave and grill which reduces space in a smal kitchen. Worthwhile in my view. other wise it would be two ovens

I never thought about computers but yeah, I guess I do tend to buy higher end stuff.

@Beckybooboo, technology changes very fast, but games and software are done for older versions, which means if you buy the very high-end, you will be good for many years, maybe adding some memory or better GPU in the same series after some time.

Can be over investing. CPUs come into the market at 1500 and leave at 200. More economic to buy more frequently at the low end. Much the same with a lot of consumer products eg TVs

tools are definitely something that have to be reliable quality... a lot of the ones I have are actually from my fathers' lol

food is an important one for me... and everything else at my kitchen as well

I can’t remember what brand it is but I’m thinking a Milwaukee skill saw my day has from YEARS ago. I can barely lift it! Now they are so light, even I could use one, if I wanted to but I don’t want to.

I always buy good quality on just about everything. I just bought some new windows and i bought the high end ones. I bought truck and got one with a V-8 and a lot of options. I just bought a refrigerator and got one made in USA that is rated the best from consumer Reports.

I have learned over the years that cheap isn’t always the best way to go. Because a lot of times you have to buy a better tool to do the job that the cheapest one won’t do. So then you have two tools and one is enough if you spent the extra money on the first one!

Tools are sooo expensive! I wanted to get my boyfriend a cordless Milwaukee sawzall or whatever it’s called, and found out it costs over two hundred dollars! And that doesn’t even include the battery and charger.

Yeah, lol, just wait until black Friday; usually, you get something free with your purchase. But yeah, I just had all my shit stolen, which was all Milwaukee :( gonna switch over to hilti I think

Oh wow! I’m really sorry to hear that. That has to be a HUGE financial hit! My uncle’s have a construction company and go to not such good parts of town and have to hire someone just to watch their trucks. It’s insane! The guy watching the trucks would go to the portta potty for thirty seconds, come back and everything would be gone. One time they had an 8000 dollar laser of some kind stolen.
