What is something you've always wanted and bought, which others may find weird?

I always wanted a portable shop vac. I used a friends once, and it was amazing. I bought one for the purposes of detailing my own car because I CANNOT stand the local car wash places. They often leave streaks behind or miss out on obvious details, and I'm not going to continue to tip for that. I'd rather spend a couple hours just getting my car frighteningly clean just the way I like it.

In 1998, I bought
""Publication 65, National Five-Digit ZIP Code and Post Office Directory" from the US Postal Service.
It had the listing of every 5-digit ZIP Code used by the US Postal Service including some surprising ones.
It also had a list of addressing standards.
At the time, I was working in a small software form in which addressing was important, so I wanted to become knowledgeable about addressing standards AND to have all the ZIP Codes available.

Publication 65 is obsolete now; it's no longer published and much of that information is on-line.

I think about such vacuum cleaning robot. There are just 100 m² 60x60cm tiles in first floor of my house and I think such a thing could work, but I need to watch some videos about real use of such robots, because often are such things just gadgets which cause more work than they help.

I can't argue with a portable shop vac. I've been using one for years on my wood pellet grill. Nothing has plugged up. I get to use it for things like puke or shit and piss after parties. You know... stuff you never want to use your regular vacuum for. Got minor flooding? Shop vac will suck that up, but that Dyson in my closet... will probably die or electrocute me.

Good reason. A car wash by our house is not $19.99 for a basic wash and wipe. And now, we have to do our own interior vacuum anyway. At least a few months ago, for $17.99 they would do it. (but the expected a tip, too). With "options"- and this still does not include any "hand wax" work- this place charges up to $100 a shot!

I'd rather do the car myself and spend the $100 on a massage afterwards!

I first saw a cordless shop vac when someone came to change our toilet. It was so cool. I can definitely understand why you wanted one. For me, it's probably my $2000 A2 bomber jacket made of horsehide. WWII style.
