You ask some out of the box qs, poppy. 👌
I don't, no. I have a long history of cooking and eating, and I'm interested in language, so I tend to know most things, but if I don't, I will ask. The servers never give me any attitude about it at all. In fact, sometimes I stump them, and they don't know the answer, but say they will go check and tell me, which is fine, too.
What's "prostituta"? Did you diverge away from food, just for a joke?
There is a pasta they make which is said to be two lovers intertwining, which I don't love to eat but love it in concept. And they have a lot of sex references in their everyday language, so I wouldn't put it past them that they have named some food item this, lol.

+1 yPerhaps the first time I tried sushi (maki rolls) I was. I think it's important to know how to dine in fine restaurants and how to pronounce the different menu items. It's part of becoming well educated.
Either you can learn these things over time (for example, as you go out to eat) or I'm sure there are youtube videos on the topic.
Dining out is meant to be fun! We are so lucky to have access to so many cuisines in the modern world. Definitely try to learn more about different cuisines if you can so it's a fun (and not intimidating) experience :)10 Reply

+1 yyes, it always happens at subways. i don't go there very often, cause you never get the time to actually understand how the menu and the ordering process works and what all the options are. every time you're greeted by a super annoyed worker and a huge line in your back that makes you rush the process, leaving with a product you're not satisfied with. at least that has been my experience so far.
and then also starbucks. their idiotic naming system should have a translation book for people who actually use normal words like "black coffee" or "milk coffee" or "large" and "small". not their insanely stupid vocabulary.

Funny you should ask. Yesterday I ordered something that was listed as Caprese. It wasn’t a salad but rather another dish. I pronounced it correctly in Italian and the waiter asked me again what I wanted. He then snootily said it like an American would who did not know. I ignored it but laughed to myself as he works there and has been there a long time. This was a nicer than normal restaurant so I was a bit surprised.
And no I don’t get intimidated and will ask what something is. If anyone should be embarrassed it should be them for being 40 and a waiter.

Menus that are too big. This is super common in the US. I don't know about anywhere else. Bro, I'm not trying to flip through 5+ pages of items to figure out what I want, and it's probably not fun for your cooks to have this much stuff to have to worry about. Narrow it down, my dudes. 2 pages should be sufficient.
10 ReplyWhen I was a kid yes but now I know quite a lot of food already so it's no big deal. And when I don't know something I ask. When the whole menu looks like a foreign language then it's intimidating to ask every single thing but when you know almost everything then asking is more easy.

+1 yAs I skim through a fancy menu, I can't help but think about the dreaded feeling of being surrounded by the earthy stench of decomposing vegetation and skunk spray. It's like a fecal fest in there, with a generous sprinkling of burnt hair and half-decomposed prostituta for good measure. I'm almost tempted to ask for a side of scorched drain cleaner just to clear away the mental fog caused by the fetid zone of memories wafting off the page.
10 Reply1K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Maybe when I was a kid. Most of the menus are all in English here unless you go to the fancy side of town. If the dish has a name that's not in English, there's usually a description of the ingredients on the menu and how it's cooked so the staff doesn't have to explain that dish 20 times a day.

but Google helps relatively fast to solve this problem

+1 yI have and I usually default to "somewhere on this menu do you have a big steak"? They always smile and either say yes or give me something relatively similar. I usually follow up by asking for a big "bottle of ketchup" just to get their reaction, and tell them I am joking before they get it.
As for "snooty waiters" they can kiss my ass.
10 Reply465 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I'm too picky with food to eat at a place where I can't pronounce the menu items. And I don't care enough about what other people think to force myself to do so for someone else's benefit. I eat what I like, and that's not negotiable.

+1 yNo, that's not a problem. If I don't know what something is, I'll just ask. If there are multiple things I like, I will just pick one and I can get something else the next time. You can also try food from someone else's plate. It's the best way to try more at once.

+1 yYes and more so just confused about what the hell am I going to be able to eat and why aren't there even pretty pictures here lol 🖼️🖼️🖼️ the descriptions useless even lol. So yes, menu's can be hell and before I know it, I'm turning turnip 😏🥳 and thinking I need to eat elsewhere lol. To the McDonald's, away 🕊️💸

+1 yThe word intimidate is a word that is used to say that a man is scared of something. Like a bully can seem intimidating. Any man that feels scared of a menu needs to seek help for a phobia of menus. When anyone does not know what something is, normally you just point and ask what is in this, or what is this. No one should be scared of everything.

+1 yNope. Just point at the thing in question and ask how it's said and what it is.
Always grasp at opportunities to learn about something. Everyone needs food and eating new ones that you can enjoy is fun.

+1 yEvery time I go to a new restaurant. It’s either foods I don’t know, has pork, or cooked with wine. Mostly things I cannot eat. The restaurant I can eat, limited selection. So mostly, I eat at my house 🤪

10 Reply Only when it's fixed and I can't choose. Restaurants are a nightmare and I already can't decide what to eat. I'll be stuck for the whole menu.

![Have you ever felt intimidated by a menu?]()
If you are able to read this by default, there is nothing to worry about. Latin-based languages such as Spanish and Italian actually have even higher level of word-to-sound correspondence than both Welsh and English have.
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yNo, I am enough of a sophisticated man-about-town to navigate a menu.
