Was McDonalds closed near you?

Yesterday (15-16 March 2024), a global IT outage caused McDonalds restaurants all over the world to close, since customers could not order food. Affected locations included China, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and Germany, and possibly other countries.

The issue turned out to be a failed server at a McDonalds data center and was resolved later in the day.

Typically, a failed server would only affect the local area or country. It's unusual to affect multiple countries.

As for me if truth be told I didn’t even notice because I don’t eat at McDonald’s or usually pass one in my travels. Unfortunately outages do happen & I always laugh because people seem to forget how to make a burger & fries without computers & they don’t know what a cash box is.

On the other hand I wish I would of known because I would of bought stock in the company but with the outage the stocks did drop.

Me and my wife (and her sister and mother) visited McDonalds in Leiderdorp, Netherlands yesterday. There were no indications of any trouble there.

According to the tabloids a lot of supermarkets in the UK have been having issues too. Me smells Russian hackers.

I didn’t go out yesterday. I’m not sure but I can’t imagine every McDonald’s in the United States of America would be closed

There are a bunch of McDonald's restaurants in my area and all of them are open.
