What is your favorite sandwich of all time?

I don't know if I want to say "all time"; I don't know what sandwiches the future holds, but for the time being, I think I'd nominate one from a chain back in Chicago. It's from a sub shop called Captain Nemo's, and was apparently created as part of a high school marketing class. Most of the fixings are pretty basic- ham, turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion- but then there's a sauce, a truly wonderful sauce, made of French dressing, barbecue sauce, and giardiniera juice (I've tried to recreate it down here, but the locals are uncultured heathens (in sandwich terms, at least) who don't even know what giardiniera IS). Naturally, this means it's basically heartburn in sandwich form, and should probably come with a Zantac, so it has to be just an occasional treat (it's not cheap, either), but still...

In the darkest days of my exile, when I'd be lucky to scrounge up a thousand Calories in a week, I had DREAMS about that sandwich. If I ever visit again, it'll be the first stop I make. I mean, I miss Portillo's, too, but there's one less than a hundred miles from me. Nemo's, not so much.

Either peanut butter with banana slices and honey, 3 cheese grilled cheese, or a meatball sub from a local Italian place.

Since the first also doubles as a sweet craving crusher I might have to go with that.

The best sandwich I ever tried was one with tuna flakes, mayonnaise, cheese and rye bread. I don’t remember whether I used Swiss or cheddar cause it’s been so long since I tried it.
