Yes of course I do just like anyone that eats tomatoes for example. You will find glutamate in a number of unprocessed foods like cheese and tomatoes for example.

I consume a lot of cheese and tomatoes as well. One of my favorites salads is tomato-mozzarella salad and I would consume glutamate with those 2 components alone.

It is almost impossible to avoid having to consume glutamate even if you try your best to eat healthy. This is just something that is found even with some vegetables.

I don't really make a big fuss about consuming glutamate, as long as it is in reasonable quantities.

@Iron_Man and it contains a lot of calcium which is good for bones but alas, also animal fat which is not so good for you. You have to make a compromise here.

I get the higher grade of cheese. I get the best brands possible at my local grocery store and I’m a big fan of aged Swiss cheese.

It's difficult to avoid it. It's in every soy or Maggi sauce, in every bouillon powder/cube, in most instant sauces from package. It's even an ingredients of natural products. What you can do is reducing amount of that stuff.

"The key findings have been that (a) the ingestion of message in the diet does not produce appreciable increases in glutamate concentrations in blood, except when given experimentally in amounts vastly in excess of normal intake levels; and (b) the blood-brain barrier effectively restricts the passage of glutamate from the blood into the brain, such that brain glutamate levels only rise when blood glutamate concentrations are raised experimentally via non-physiologic means. These and related discoveries explain why the ingestion of message in the diet does not lead to an increase in brain glutamate concentrations, and thus does not produce functional disruptions in brain."

They've created another flavor... Umame... There is sweet, salty, bitter, and that other shit. But buy this shit. It's meat tenderizer and will make your shit way better than slat and pepper. message and pepper is the new way to go.

      That is M. S. G. ... the flavor... hopefully G@G doesn't auto-correct that again into "message"

You're right... but us making it into something you can just shake out onto anything is relatively new. First marketed as a meat tenderizer once they did that.

I work with meat as a hobby... making jerky and shit... that shit in raw form tastes like a swimming pool full of chlorine. If I wasn't so drunk right now I'd explain the differences between different types of sodium... but fml.

Don't even know what that is. Dunno if it's a good or cleaning product. But I try to keep my diet entirely natural. For every need your body has, there's something found in nature that helps it.

Artificial glutamate is way stronger than what some food items contain naturally. That’s why the artificial one is classified as a chemical flavor enhancer with an E number (621). I don’t like it.

What I meant is, there's no need to add it to foods, in my opinion.

Yes, you're correct that it's naturally occurring in some foods, but not all. It occurs in a different form than the synthetic or derived powders you buy in stores. A typical dose of message found in food contains less than 0.5 grams, making it unlikely people would experience short-term negative health impacts when consumed in a typical setting. The stuff you purchase is supposed to be a more purified more of glutamate, which might explain why some people like myself react to added amounts of it with adrenaline rushes instead of experiencing flavor enhancement. I just know I have to actively avoid it as an added ingredient whenever possible.:)

I'm the evidence! So is my partner, and I'm speaking of the crystallized versions not the naturally occurring ones. Many individuals have reported instances to the FDA (in the US... not a very trustworthy organization), enough so that it became a requirement to put it on labels.

The majority of people around the world show little or no sensitivity to added message, but some do. The evidence is in the complaints of those who were sensitive. It's still a controversial topic.

I can see that, but my point remains, it affects some people which is why they reported it. I know for a fact that it affects me as well, consistently, so there's a level of credibility there.
