I say it's time to put away childish condiments and dip in a grown up sauce.

Mustard doesn't taste that good to me by itself it has to be mixed with other stuff. Unless it's like sweet mustard that can be pretty good. Mayo is just egg with fat added unless it's handmade and i'm eating something that it really fits, I'm not gonna eat it. Mayo from the tube I never liked it. Tartar is good most of the time but I don't think you can eat it with everything and it's not that common it's mostly fancier places that have that.
I think ketchup as long as it's Heinz is still good. I don't eat it with a lot of things there are a few things that it fits well with.
What are your thoughts about gravy?
@Caroline91 Do Americans even eat gravy? :S
@Caroline91 Okay. I feel like American culture is strange in many respects.
@Caroline91 Mmmh it's alright.
@Caroline91 Please send some Californian women my way.
@Caroline91 would be nice. 😌
@Still-alive I guess one can dream... lol
@Caroline91 They have the best accents, man.
@Caroline91 You didn't know you had accents? Oh dear...
I like it because it's antithetical to my 'proper' English accent. It basically sounds the exact opposite. It's loose, loud, uninhibited, bold, confident sounding. Mine is the exact opposite...
Plus the stereotypical surfer accent is so cool sounding.
@Levin I had a British boyfriend when I was in high school and he used to tease me about my "twang". There are different regional accents within the state. But since I'm from coastal California, I don't have an accent until I go somewhere else... lol. And it's interesting bc what people associate with the stereotypical surfer accent is mostly surfer dudes. Wahines don't tend to speak the same way as the dudes. It's still slower and more laid back, but the girls don't sound as stupid as the dudes. However, I don't speak like that at work or in a very formal environment. I wouldn't get up and give a speech in front of a group of any kind of professionals using surfspeak. And if I think about it, you're right, the California accent is all of those adjectives you used. Mostly we're just really expressive about having a blast and we party hardy on a regular basis. I grew up right on the Pacific... like walk there in 10 minutes or less, skateboard in 5. And while both our accent and posture are loose and relaxed, our minds are not when we are out on the ocean. It's potentially a very dangerous place and you have to be savvy to just survive. I've never really been good at board surfing... really bad balance issues. But I have been a bodysurfer since I was about 10, And every day's a good day when the surf is clean and the wave sets are cranking. Surf's UP!!
@Caroline91 I see. You were living the 'American dream' by having a British boyfriend :)
@Caroline91 Sounds like some kind of sexual metaphor. Poor fellow couldn't hack it.
Ketchup is a condiment just like mustard, mayo, and relish, are these only for kids? What about using gravy on French fries, is that a kids thing? Its a personal choice for what a person likes on their food, Some people swear that steak sauce is for the unrefined pallet but then again some people love its flavor and prefer it on their steaks, especially if its a substandard piece of meat, or was not cooked properly. Sometimes the quality of the food demands a condiment to make it palpable, especially where fast food is concerned. I personally like tarter sauce on my onion rings where others use ranch dressing or a another flavor of dipping sauce. We all are unique in how the world's food taste's to us so let us enjoy our preferences to improve our culinary experiences. Foods too expensive to spit it out and toss it in the trash.
I don't agree because I am an adult and I love Ketchup on my cheeseburgers and fresh fries.🍔🍟
I even like ketchup on my scrambled eggs!🥚😋
It's ok, not great, not bad either. in my opinion spicy ketchup is a bit better, since it adds peppers into the mix.
While ketchup often finds itself paired with childhood favorites, it undeniably holds a cherished spot in many cuisines and dining experiences. Its tangy sweetness complements fast-food classics and balances flavors in various dishes. I've enjoyed a surprising pairing of ketchup with an Italian panini, adding a fun twist to a leisurely meal. Life's too short to label condiments as childish; it's about the joy they bring and the memories they create. 🍅

Are you trying to say that it's made out of children? :-o
@DryGermanGuy I'm sure that's EXACTLY what she's trying to say... I so admire your talent for always getting right to the crux of things!
It's definitely too much sugar inside Ketchup for children and that stuff should be rationed
Not if you buy reduced sugar.
I mean it's literally just food preferences, lol. There's nothing childlike OR adultlike about it. Looking into it any further than that is just silly.
Though usually grown adults who like ketchup probably won't slather it on a new meal without even trying it first like a child would. At that point you're tasting the ketchup more than the food. Same applies to people who just slather hot sauce of everything before trying it honestly.
Though again none of my business even if they do, do that as an adult.
What is it, that you are trying link ketchup with sex as well? 😂😂
Ok... you can lick it from a woman's body like chocolate sauce, but besides that? What's this about again? Are you having a food shortage in the UK? 😂😂 Or is ketchup now a main dish, that ALL of your partners eat Fried Ketchup together with liquid Ketchup and ketchup flavored chips because it's some kind of new British national dish? 😳
I don't believe that graphic, it doesn't look like experts for humans sexuality of any university have created that graphic... and I don't believe in any correlation between ketchup and the human sexual act. This graphic looks sus... I believe the Tartar sauce industry faked that graphic... that or it's aliens !
Either that or the food in the UK must be so hideous that EVERYONE (including people that are horrible in bed) are dipping their food in 5 kg of ketchup to give it at least some flavor...
Interestingly, the original ''Ketchup'' (or 'Kisap' or ke-tsiap) (I know the former, I looked up the latter) is a fermented sauce without tomatoes.
Modern day Ketchup to me is an abomination - and as in addition it is widely loved in the U. S., I have symbolically banned it in my own home.
I do hate Ketchup and what it represents.
I do not so much agree with your ''child's condiment'' comment - isn't that red stuff more a consumerist accessory to (equally consumerist) junk food that's gobbled up by mindless non-gourmets throughout all life ages?
James-The-Foodie reveals this clearly enough. We are what we eat :D
Tomatoes deserve to be treated with much more respect.
As an adult, I love ketchup. I put it on my French fries like a normal person should, and not like some snobby European who thinks it's "too American." I also enjoy using it for art projects and as fake blood when I play with Star Wars action figures.
Where the fuck does this "Europeans don't use ketchup on their french fries" shit come from. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Potteplante Well I've lived in parts of Europe (namely France and Romania) for months at a time. But yo have a point, it could just be my perception. In America, they practically just give you ketchup. Over there you have to pay for it extra, so maybe you're just picker and snobbier about it.
@Potteplante Well let me as you this. If you went to McDonad's over there and they just GAVE you ketchup, would you like ketchup on your french fries better?
@douglas1179 let me get this straight, you think Europeans don't like ketchup with their french fries because McDonald's doesn't hand ketchup out for free? Which by the way plenty of places around in Europe do give out free ketchup with their french fries - in my area they give out remoulade as well. Are we less "picky and snobby" now?
Though I'd call it being more picky and snobby if all that works for you is ketchup - nothing else and anyone who likes and is raised up with something else as not normal but that's just me. And no I would not like ketchup more or less if McDonald's handed them out for free, having to buy them doesn't ruin me.
@Potteplante Remoulade? I've never heard of it and it sounds gross.
@Potteplante But let me tell you something, Missy. When I was in Paris, I made coq au vin for my French friends, and they said it was BETTER than the classic French version of it. So you can be just as snobby as you want to be with your condiments, because obviously Americans know what we're doing in the kitchen.
@douglas1179 see snobbish, seems to me that you, the American is more snobbish than me, the European.
Have a good one. I prefer not to deal with snobbish people.
@Potteplante Seems to me that you think your humility is somehow superior. Touche!
@Potteplante May I make just one more point about ketchup, or are you going back to your exclusive Belgian endives and truffle oil?
@potteplante Very well then, my reticent princess. A sauce does not stand alone. The point of it is to accompany the dish and provide texture, flavor and COLOR CONTRAST. Tartar sauces and Remoulade therefore pale in comparison. Good day, ma'am.
Everyone is picky until they get rig-strolled.
@Rig_Stroll Tell us how you're feeling. Make us understand.
Strolling past the rig gleaming bright
My heart's a mix of love and fright
The black gold's grip is strong, it's hard to fight
While nature's cry is drowned in this endless night
Can’t you see the cost of this desire?
We’re burning dreams, we’re playing with fire
Are you gonna wake up now?
Are you gonna take a stand?
The earth is crying out, it’s time to understand
We’re losing more than fries,
We’re losing all our ties,
To a world that’s fading fast, slipping through our hands
The waves crash, but the rigs just stand so tall
While whispers of the ocean beg us not to fall
I chase the oil like it’s my last call
But every drop we take could lead to nature’s thrall
Can’t you see the cost of this desire?
We’re burning dreams, we’re playing with fire
Are you gonna wake up now?
Are you gonna take a stand?
The earth is crying out, it’s time to understand
We’re losing more than fries,
We’re losing all our ties,
To a world that’s fading fast, slipping through our hands
@douglas1179 lol, then be snobbish dude. I don't give a fuck - just don't go on a crying rant calling others snobby while you're the one that is it. Want a medal for making food for french people and getting compliments on it? 🏅 There you go
@douglas1179 "sauce does not stand alone. The point of it is to accompany the dish and provide texture, flavor and COLOR CONTRAST." - yes just try and retract that you're a little snob that can't handle something unknown to you, if it is something you don't know or haven't seen it just be as you say "sounds gross "
@douglas1179 and what point do you want to make about ketchup, other than Europeans are snobby and picky because McDonald's doesn't hand it out for free?
@Potteplante I may have gone to fast food places less than 10 times in my life, but I remember some of them letting you take as much ketchup as you want. Possibly it was Macdonald's. I am in north America.
@Rig_Stroll good for you?
@Potteplante What is your native language?
What I said was that a sauce should provide contrast to the dish. Therefore mayonnaise and tartar do not even qualify as a sauce when you put them on French fries.
@Potteplante Admittedly, this line of thinking could be the result of living in the most superior country on Earth. Americans celebrate diversity and "contrast" if you will. In fact, the lady who makes my cheeseburger has, and always will be black, to contrast my pale skin as I do more important things than manual labor.
@douglas1179 damn, I was 3 points short of jumping from level 1 to level 3 at once. I think I did it in the past though.
I purposely stayed level 1 69 age with 1 question 69 opinions
Wait. Is my MHO 100%?
@douglas1179 lol, whatever you say little picky snob. I'll mix ketchup WITH mayo and dip my french fries in it and I LOVE it. Now proceed to tell me how gross that is in your little picky snobby mind.
You did not say a sauce should do anything to a dish you snobbish little prude. You outright called something gross because well - we've settled that you're the picky snob here not the Europeans and you just projecting. 😂😂
Of course, only an American can make this subject into a racial one. 🤢
@douglas1179 and my native tongue has nothing to do with this subject - trying to throw in more racial shit into the subject of ketchup? (And you projecting your snobbish and picky ways on Europeans)
Gonna have to disagree with this one 😂 I love ketchup on hot dogs, in burgers, in foods like stews beef sometimes, and believe it or not pasta tastes pretty good with cheddar cheese and a little ketchup.
It's an easy condiment to enhance the flavours of a dish. It's not exactly healthy, and I wouldn't ever recommend people have it on the daily, but it's most certainly not just a children's condiment.
I'd assume anyone who says otherwise is a pretentious person.
I read an article that kids like ketchup so much because it's one of the few food decisions they make on their own.
Kids are fed whatever their parents feel like making. They're forced to eat vegetables and other stuff they don't like, but, ketchup is different. They like the taste and they're able to choose whether to use it or not. And, if they use it, they pretty much have freedom to put it on whatever they want and choose how much they use.
This holiday season, I offer you a feast of horrors, a gastronomic journey through the abyss. A XXXmas table spread where every bite is a test of willpower, a descent into the abyss. The damned sauces of curry and tartar, like the molten lava of my hellish laughter, will consume your senses, leaving you begging for mercy, yet unable to resist their tantalizing torment.
It is normally presented with well known kid-accommodating food sources like burgers, fries, and chicken strips. The commonality and relationship of ketchup with pleasant food sources can add to a kid's general inclination for it. Pureed tomatoes has a sweet and tart flavor that requests to numerous kids
I definitely liked ketchup way way more as a kid... and started to enjoy it less and less as I grew up, I didn't see it childish or anything, that just happened
went the other way with mustard, though... lol
@NathanDavis Well I totally agree that mustard is the bomb... I have 4 varieties of mustard in my fridge atm. But, c'mon, not thoroughly enjoying ketchup? I thought you were just a big kid!!
by the way, what's your favorite mustard choice?
@Caroline91 as of today... dijon > honey > yellow mustard
it does depend how it goes with, and I still do ketchup lmao... just very little of it, and only when I feel like I am missing it, then I do enjoy it some more
@NathanDavis Lately I'm enjoying stone ground, hot Chinese, and spirit mustard. And thank you for restoring my faith... even if your ketchup consumption is on the low side. I don't know how anyone can completely forsake it. lol.
@Caroline91 from time to time I make my own fries... and does do deserve a bit of ketchup, lol
@NathanDavis Now that sounds good. You're so much braver than I am! But it really does need to be a good quality ketchup.
@Caroline91 which or what kind of ketchup are you getting nowadays?
@NathanDavis Believe it or not I really like Target’s private-label Market Pantry brand. It's both tangy and sweet with a bit of umami to it and it's thick. Heinz is equivalent. Just basic stuff, but those are my two favorites for the quintessential ketchup experience. lol Not much worse than thin runny ketchup, especially on lovely home made fries!
@Caroline91 have you tried those "organic" ones
@NathanDavis Heinz has organic and Kroger's Simple Truth brand organic is good. The Target brand isn't, so I often do get one of the other two. It is kind of important to buy tomatoes organic. Which brand do you use?
@Caroline91 yep... Heinz organic, is the one I've tried as of late
Disagree. I like ketchup and I’m 18. I like barbecue sauce or cocktail sauce more though. Never really got into tartar sauce. That being said, what condiment a guy (or girl) uses has no influence on how desirable I find them.
You can have MICKEY Ds fries your way without Ketchup. I will have them my way with ketchup and even put it on my hamburger too. I guess I am a child at heart. I wish McDonald's cooked their french fries in beef tallow like they did in the 1960s. They tasted better!
If you were a man, I would challenge you to a duel with pistols at dawn for this heresy of a statement! Ketchup is a must have for hotdogs and hashbrowns!!! XD
I agree and hope Ketchup will never catch up to my table.
lol... what did tomatoes ever did to you...
@NathanDavis ketchup does a horrible job representing tomatoes
what does do did de would do justice to tomatoes?
Someone needs a good hard spanking and sent to her room without dinner. I can forgive a lot of things, but you don't mess with a man's food.
Most foods in the US are highly processed in a bunch of ways... to make colors brighter. so you can say that about most processed foods
I would not even consider buying ketchup in the first place, even less for kids, since it can't be part of any balanced meal
I put ketchup on my:
And so on! You will never take that from me, I dont care how purple you are!
Look it may not be my favorite condiment out there, but ketchup is always there when the going gets tough! Ketchup for life!!
Nope.
Fries go with ketchup and nothing better.
A hot dog goes perfect with ketchup.
This reminds me of Wednesday asking if Girl Scout cookies are made out of real Girl Scouts.
Yeah, kind of and also very overrated.
Nah give me my ketchup - if I'm being fancy I'll mix it with mayo.
According to former First Lady Michelle Obama, ketchup is a vegetable, and satisfies a key element of a balanced school lunch.
I'm in love 🥰🥰🥰 I've been waiting for another human to say this boldly, loudly, proudly for decades. Ketchup is an abomination fit for children only.
I love ketchup! I don’t really think it’s sweet though and I like other sauces but for some things I prefer ketchup but liking ketchup isn’t childish
I know somebody who used to put ketchup on scrambled eggs. He told me if it wasn't for ketchup he would have starved to death a long time ago.
It belongs on hamburgers, and that's about it.
No, ketchup has no age restrictions and can be enjoyed by everyone of any age.
purplepoppy not on my watch, I like some ketchup or tomato sauce some of the time ❤️😋
Ketchup is fine for a person of any age to consume. As is literally any other condiment or food product. Actually, if we’re talking about not having a place at the adult table, I think @purplepoppy is someone who belongs on that list.
Ps: your graph is clearly horseshit
Fresh made catsup is a key ingredient in French haute cuisine. 'Ketchup' is a brand name for catsup created by Heinz to use in its advertising.
I don’t mind Hunts Ketchup bc it doesn’t have preservatives
I think Ketchup is liked by adults as much as by children
no, it's literally just mashed up tomatoes and sugar...
All you've illustrated is that all other condiments are for frivilous coomer sluts. Ketchup is for high testosterone, monogamous, high iq, wealthy, gorgeous, big dicked men with 9 children
It's tomato paste, vinegar, and sugar. It's very simple
I put homemade habanero hot sauce on everything
I mixed horseradish with ketchup and spread it all over my Ribeye! Muah ha ha! Muah ah ah!
Yes, I find ketchup ruins the taste of food as I got older.
If you don't like ketchup you are not a good person.
Shhh... don't give away the secret... the bad guys might start eating it in order to confuse us!!
I guess only on fries. But I guess that would make fries a child's food.
I mean i only like ketchup on fries. But since they go well together, That's why I conclude fries as a kid's food.
I don't use condiments, but I guess, though lots of adults use it.
I've never been a big fan of any condiments i like to taste my food
Ketchup is designed to go on food. Who cares how old you are? If you like it use it.
unless you make into a reduction sauce, possibly I agree
It taste like candy but old people eat candy to
I don't even use ketchup unless it's to mix with mayo when making cheeseburgers
welp i guess i'm a CHILD then
It's basically sugar with red food coloring
Both have that high fructose corn syrup though.
To each their own I have. Ranch dressing please
It’s a condiment for every!
Absolutely not, its suitable for everyone
Real men use Sriracha!
I’m a ketchup whore I love it on my fries
I don't see an age range on the bottle
Hell no! I love ketchup.
Nope, not at all
Yeah it mostly is
Extremely unhealthy
