What is a food that is only found where you live?

Question

We have what are known as “Greek Dogs”. They are hotdogs with a ground beef sauce on top made with various spices, like chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper and onions. Some put cheese on as well and others don’t.

You pretty much don’t find them outside of where I live. @bananathunder will know exactly where that photo was taken XD

There is a place called Killer Shrimp in SoCal where I grew up. It started out small and only had one menu item. You guessed it, Killer Shrimp.

They served a bowl of delicious broth full of medium-size shrimp in the shell, accompanied by a bowl of baguette slices.
You picked out the shrimp with your fingers, peeled and ate them. And you dipped the baguette slices in the broth.

The place expanded to two locations and eventually bought a large space in Marina Pacifica with an expanded menu.

A friend had the recipe and gave it to me before my wife and I moved. We make it every once in a while on special occasions. It is killer!

My wife is originally from Cincinnati. They are known for Skyline Chili.

It tastes nothing like chili, it's more like a Greek spaghetti sauce. They serve it over spaghetti noodles and you can request chopped onions, kidney beans and shredded cheddar cheese, or any of those that you want.

It's kind of addicting. My wife and I order cans of it and serve it the way they do in their restaurants.

Tri-tip sandwiches. Made from a marinated tri-tip roast, sliced thick, and served on a soft roll, often with cheese, and sometimes with onions or garlic.

Tri-tip roasts are almost exclusively available in California. The piece of meat used to be considered "trash meat" because people didn't know how to cook it, and it could be tough, so it was often used for things like pet food. Then, Californians figured out how to marinade and roast it in such a way to make it tender and delicious, and the most popular way to serve it was in slices in a sandwich. It's become so popular in California that California now uses up nearly the entire country's supply of tri-tip roasts.

I BBQ the tri-tip roasts throughout the summer months and my friends fight over invitations to my tri-tip dinners. It's always the most requested thing.

The "bark" on the outside is so delicious, kind of like "burnt ends" of a BBQ brisket.

This is so nostalgic to see, omg. I visited Rum Runners last summer, when going to the US for the first time!

I don't remember what I ordered there, but I believe I actually sat in those chairs up front, lol.

In my country, something local would probably be a Kapsalon, which is fries covered with shawarma, topped with melted cheese, and then salad on top.

The one that springs to mind is laverbread. It's the same stuff you wrap sushi in but in a puree form. You can eat it as a spread, or a dollop in the side of the plate but most of the time I would incorporate it into a recipe such as laverbread muffins.

I like spicy combinations, and cheese. Sounds great. Where does the name “Greek Dogs” come from?

In southern Spain, it must be gazpacho, basically a cold soup made with tomatoes, cucumber, green bell pepper, bread, onion, garlic, olive oil, cumin, sea salt and black pepper. Sounds weird, until you try it of course.

You can add some drops of Sherry vinegar if you like.

I grew up in Northeast US, where a  garbage plate  was very common. A "plate", as it is locally called, typically consists of hot dog or hamburger meat, hot meat sauce, and other condiments, piled atop a variety of side dishes, typically including macaroni salad and home fries. It is usually served with a side of buttered bread.

We have the ordinal cony island hot dog, there are many imitations but we have the only authentic cony sauce (recipe over 100 years old) and you can buy it in the frozen food sections under the Todoroff's name.
