King, these people flee *from* violence, oppression and poverty. Not *towards* the fruits of the American school system.

@DryGermanGuy I actually agree with you partially. US public schools are awful. We have many private schools that have excellent reputations however. Unfortunately, you gotta have money to send your kids there.

@Kingofkings1992
You also have excellent universities. like Harvard, Stanford, MIT... for which the same, mostly financial, access barriers exist. I'd say we can also agree that immigrants, legal or illegal, have other priorities than enrolling themselves or their children into the top educational institutions.
I've read years and years ago that the best American universities have to give 90-100% of the PhD spots to foreign students, because of the human material coming out of American highschools is unsuitable. If that didn't ring all the alarm bells then, what will? - 6 d
You have not dealt with the Dept of UNEDUCATION, our kids can't read, write, do math, and speak correctly. As for common sense, that is a flower that does not grow in every gardenThey believe any bullshit taught to them with WOKE TEACHERS TEACHING DEI!

I’m never surprised at the level of ignorance or naivety of anyone regardless of nationality especially since there is information so quickly and readily available to educate and validate. But I wouldn't judge , condemn or berate anyone for it.
To take it a step further , the literal translation being the 5th of may , but how many would name the relevant year without first checking google? Or even which battle the Mexican army were victorious in10 Reply
Well, no cause I don't expect British people know much about it. But at this point it is more of an American holiday (with Mexican roots), isn't it? I mean, to my knowledge no one really cares about it in Mexico. It's much more celebrated here in the states.

It was touted with a beer commercial to sell a lot of beer on a make-believe holiday for Americans to get drunk and increase the sale of Corona Beer. As usual, Americans fell for it hook, line, and sinker
Whenever I was a kid someone told me it was for the Mexican day of the dead, I believed them 🤣 However the person that made the video is from the UK, not surprised they’re not knowledgeable about other country’s holidays.

It's not surprising that there could be misconceptions about Cinco de Mayo. This vibrant Mexican holiday commemorates the Battle of Puebla, celebrating Mexico's victory over the French in 1862. Some people mix up words and events, which can lead to misunderstandings such as thinking it involves mayonnaise. It just highlights the importance of learning and appreciating cultural histories. 🌮

There is one that they all have in common, they are usually College/University "Educated" who are intentionally ignorant and have never looked up Cinco De Mayo and found it is an annual celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Not really surprised. It sounds a bit like mayonnaise, so some people get confused or joke about it. But Cinco de Mayo is definitely a Mexican holiday, not about mayo. Have you met anyone who actually thinks that?

In fairness, she IS British. How many Americans fully understand Guy Fawkes Day or the various "bank holidays" they have over there?

I rather *like* Cinco De Mayo. It's a sign Mexican Americans are going the way Irish Americans and others went. (for example, Saint Patrick's Day, Columbus Day until the Leftists ruined that for Italian Americans).

We do not celebrate mayonnaise in general. We celebrate 5 specific mayonnaise brands. Because they are Murican. And White. And not vegan.

I've been celebrating Sinko the Mayo for years. Everybody throws mayonnaise into the water, and we all have a good time watching it sink.

No, but unlike a celebration of the souls of the dead, a holiday about mayonaise would at least be grounded in reality.
