What do you do with a CHIPPED RIM on your DRINKING GLASS?

FYI...
We have a few glasses that each has a very small chip in the rim. We still use them, keeping them behind all the other glasses in the cupboard so we only use them when we have to. We are very careful to keep the chip side of the glass away from our lips.

I'm drinking out of one of these glasses now. All the others are in the dishwasher, getting washed.

Throw it away. Chances are high glass splinter you swallow damages wall of intestine. Content of small intestine pours between organs and causes severe infection that ends deadly without treatment. Your body inside needs to be cleaned/disinfected and damaged intestine parts removed. I don't envy any surgeon who has to do such task. After surgery at least 1 week intense care with antibiotics which are only allowed to be used under clinical condition and direct intestine feeding beneath part that was sewed together.

I don’t know. This never happened to me. But you could cut your mouth on that glass. That’s more than just a chip. I wouldn’t suggest either using it or donating it to charity. Sadly I’d probably just throw it away and buy another one.

When i was poorer, i would continue to use a slightly damaged glass. Not i do not. I’ve never cut myself drinking from one, but i’ve cut myself washing them. Had one shatter while i was washing it and cut my hand. Another one was small enough that sticking my hand inside to wash it caused the chip to cut me as i twisted the glass to scrub the inside bottom. Now broken glasses go bye bye immediately.

I throw it out. Glasses are available for 1€ at IKEA, no point in keeping damaged ones.

Chipped glasses can be tricky. If it's a slight chip and you feel comfortable with it, you could use it for non-drink purposes, like holding spare change or as a small flower vase. However, erring on the side of caution for health and safety is always wise, so retiring it as a drinking glass might be the best choice. Better safe than sorry! 🌿

If the glass is like the photo, it get's dumped. I HAVE taken several glass containers and glasses, smoothed out the small nick with a ceramic tip on my Moto-tool, and continue to use them.
