Yes. Did you never had a bad day in your life?

I tried never to let others feel my bad days. But we are human. Sometimes it is an overload and you may say anything you feel sorry for.

It is not excusing. Just explaining.

And there will be more than one hostess work in the diner.

Rude staff is why I no longer go to a certain restaurant in our little town. I walked out before the meal came & told the staff why.

  • I would probably still dine there once, but with low expectations and a mental note. 😅

A rude hostess can sour the mood, yet I’ve had incredible food in places where the front-of-house wasn’t exactly charming. In Tokyo, a tiny izakaya owner barely looked at me, but the yakitori was unforgettable.

If the food and atmosphere redeem it, I might return. Repeated rudeness, though, and I’m gone.

Do you mean actually rude or just very minimalist/introverted in their work? Because I read that Americans call ALDI cashiers rude, because they do not engage in the usual smalltalk.

No, I mean actually rude and dismissive. The hostess is usually the first person to greet you and escort you to your table.

Right. That's not good. I had recently an interesting similar encounter with a doctor's receptionist. DM me if you want to hear the story.

I'd have that hostess substituted until after I leave.

    I've done that before.

The owner of the restaurant immediately adhered to my request since he knew the hostess was disrespectful.

He temporarily replaced the hostess with another staff member while he scolded her in the Manager's office.

After she got scolded by the owner, the Manager stepped in to give her a lecture about proper manners.

T'was my idea to just give her a warning and a sermon instead of being fired.

A hostess is a hostess & once they sit you that is all that matters. If the food at the restaurant is good I can careless if the hostess is rude or not.

If the waiter or waitress is rude their tip will reflect it.

No, I've walked out of restaurants when they try to stick me at the table next to the kitchen door, slow service, etc. If they can be rude, I feel free to do the same.
