Ok, so, like, just another random thought I had. I mean, what could have ever been the motivation for eating an egg in the first place? They don't really look all that appetizing to begin with. So, what started it all? Was some caveman just randomly walking by a cavechicken one day when it was laying an egg and said, "Hey! Look! That thing just popped out of that chickens butt! I'm gonna' go eat it!" ? Or maybe someone dared him to do it? Was he just trying to impress the caveladies? What could they seriously have been thinking here?

And then somehow it just all became trendy so now people all over the world do it at breakfast? And would that make us all descendants of that one caveman who was dumb enough to take the dare in the first place when all the other cavemen laughed at him?

I mean, seriously, how did this cultural phenomenon ever begin? And so, I ask, Who was the first person to ever eat an egg?

Lots of animals eat other animals’ eggs. Our prehistoric ancestors certainly did. One of the prevailing theories suggests that our ancestors’ brains developed more because of high protein diets. So what came first, eating eggs or the knowledge that eggs are edible? 🤔🤔🤔
I wonder who first decided to eat almonds. Almonds are inedible to humans in their natural form. They have to be heavily processed before we can eat them. What lunatic made that series of decisions instead of just saying, “Can’t eat that”? Ell oh ell! It seems like i read something similar about olives. We can’t eat them raw. They have to be cooked or pickled to be edible.
There are some things that certain animals evolved to eat, but those same things sicken or kill other animals that didn’t evolve the same resistances and metabolism. Then there’s the infamous puffer fish that will supposedly kill you to eat if not prepared properly. Yet it’s a delicacy in Japan! Who watched their reckless cousin die from fugu and thought, “Oh, he’s just one of those picky eaters. I can eat that!”?

The rest of the story is, when someone discovered that eggs were edible but messy to eat in their raw state, a cave woman complained to her ingenious cave man who got to work on the problem and invented the frying pan to make her happy. She rewarded him by inventing omelettes, pancakes, and lots of other tasty things. Then she discovered that she could also use it to clonk him on his hard head when he made her unhappy.
And that was the beginning of civilization. All because of eggs.

Eggs are highly attractive food source due it's high fat and protein content, that's why even crocodiles with their 20g brain or prehistoric fishes defend their eggs.
I think if our ancestor could find eggs of any size or shape they were happy to have meal. The idea of eating eggs came probably from nature observation. Our ancestors had a lot of time to observe nature, of course there was no David Attenborough commentary explaining why other animal eat eggs but they have seen in it in 3d and super ultra HD with their eyeballs.

No one knows who first ate an egg, and there was definitely no single heroic “egg caveman” 😂. Humans have been eating eggs since prehistory, long before farming. Hunter‑gatherers likely stole eggs from wild bird nests, just as many animals do.

Once chickens were domesticated, especially in Southeast Asia, eggs became regular food. Curiosity, hunger, and watching animals eat them probably made eggs seem natural.

Personally, I love how such a simple thing ended up as tamagoyaki in Japan or carbonara in Italy 🍳✨

I doubt if anyone conciously made the decision to eat the first egg.

Animals of all sorts have been eating eggs for millions of years, including hominid ancestors, long before hominids existed. As evolution continued through the ages, eventually reaching early proto-humans, they simply continued doing what their ancestors did; eating eggs, because they recognized it as an edible source of food.

Eventually, Grok & She-Grok the cave people, just continued that same evolutionary response. Sometimes the mammoth wouldn't go down without a fight, so you turn to easier sources of food: eggs being one of them. They knew it was safe, because they saw their parents eat them, the same as all their previous ancestors did.

At some point, modern humans recognized that they didn't have to go out hunting for eggs if we just stuck the egg-layers in a coup. Thus, the first vending machine was born!

The way I imagine it, some of our ancestors tried to eat about everything in nature, many died trying, survivors got the memo and recounted these events, over and over. Seriously though... hungry cave man, these things are like high energy, high protein berries just lying around. It's surprising any were left to allow chickens to breed.

Humans are primates and you know what they say... monkey see, monkey do. We saw other animals instinctively eat the eggs of other animals and then imitated it. That's kind of how the majority of foods were found out to be edible. That and we test in extremely small quantities to see if it's poisonous or not.

Food hasn't always been as readily available as it is for us. I am pretty sure humans have tried to eat just about anything that lets itself be eaten or died trying. Animals also steal eggs from nests.
