Things girls (and boys) should understand about the world
1. People can't read minds so they're forced to judge you based on whatever data they can get which usually starts with your looks. In short not judging a book by it's cover is next to impossible at least at first.
2. It's not always about intentions. It doesn't matter what your intentions were to the rest of the world. Hitler thought his intentions were good and correct and yet people still hate him. Same goes for you. You may not want attention or the assumption that your looking for attention but it's bound to come because your intentions only really matter to you everyone else only sees and cares about your actions.
3. If you HAVE to change yourself inorder to feel confident in your self are you really doing that great of a job?
4. Most people don't care. Despite what the tabloids tell you when you walk around the vast majority of people really don't care what you're wearing, what you've shaved, or how much time it took to do it. So doing it for you is honestly the only reason you should care.

That actually makes a great deal of sense. Guys, for example, will imagine having sex with multiple women. This is usually considered a 'fun' thing to imagine. And if the opportunity ever presented itself to have sex with multiple women, they'd go for it enthusiastically.

Women, on the other hand, may imagine having sex with multiple men and may even consider it a fun thing to imagine. But when it comes to actually doing it, most will back out. They are satisfied with simply imagining the situation.

This carries over to other things as well. If men see a problem, they'll complain about it - imagining the ways in which it is an inconvenience, and then they want it fixed. When women see a problem, they are generally content with just complaining about it. Fixing it isn't really a priority, and in some cases can even annoy them.

well for the first one it is true that its not all about men and that we just like to look good for ourselves and that it makes us feel more confident when we look good, but to some extent it really is for men. doesn't necessarily mean we're just over here doing the absolute most just to please them with how attractive we look, it just means we like the positive attention we receive from some. like if my hair and makeup and outfit looks on pointtt, i definitely want someone to see it. also some of you have mentioned female competition, that is also true. i mean i dont try to look flawless to impress my female friends that i see every day, but if i haven't seen someone in over a year, of course i'll try to look my best when i see them.

There probably are some out there that fully believe it's for their sake. But many could say the same thing because they don't really get why you do it and that reason makes the most sense.

While you consider it "for yourself" that depends on others to see you and to believe that in their eyes you look good. When you say you have confidence in yourself, it's regarding certain aspects, so which aspects are you confident in? Your math skills? Unlikely. You're confident in your appearance to others and that you will be accepted by them, this is what makes you feel good and secure. So you to put it differently, you do it 'for others' in order to be seen the way to want to be seen which makes you feel good about yourself - and since other people includes guys, a guy might wonder why that face-paint has any effect on you when it doesn't matter to guys. So it's all to get girl's approval as well as guys?

It's easier to just maintain a more down-to-earth and more reasonable and more balanced sense of self-worth than spending 2 hours applying paint that most people don't even find attractive.

Also, women DO make themselves look good for men. It may not be certain guys or any guys in particular, but the whole reason why people try to look good is for when others see them. I deliver to a company that has all female workers, I had a unscheduled delivery once and caught them in sweats hair not done up and no make up. I got cursed out for not calling about the delivery, when ever I have a scheduled deliver the women are all ways done up and well groomed.

It's always about look and image, when a man is being looked at as a date or a one night stand. The only time looks don't count is when a guy has big bucks. As one girl once told me, their is not such thing as an ugly rich man who is willing to spend money on her.

Definitely agree. I usually don't wear makeup. But I do wear dresses most of the time and occasionally pull out the red lipstick, even if I'm just sitting around at home. It just makes me feel like I have my stuff together, which sometimes is as important as actually having my stuff together. I don't care if nobody's around to see it; I'll put on my best dress, light a few candles and have a tea date with myself in the kitchen.

And honestly? Looks are for one thing - looking at. Unless the looks come with an attractive personality I am not interested in getting to know someone.
