Needless to say, I am a little bit tired of hearing the argument of how “fake” women are in today’s society. It seems now that if you put on makeup, a push-up bra or what have you that you are instantly a “fake” woman and need to be instantly ashamed of yourself. Because HOW DARE YOU LIE TO MEN! Men prefer natural, unfiltered women, don’tcha know!
Except there is one problem with that logic; that problem is that it’s complete and utter bullshit.
Sure, men would love natural women if natural women were naturally PERFECT. I’m not going to sit here and suggest that all men have this expectation of women being perfect, but let’s just break it down for a moment; if you had to choose between a woman with undone hair, unplucked brows, no makeup, dark circles, maybe a few blemishes or a woman with moderate to light makeup and styled hair you know which one you’d choose in most cases. Why? Because the second woman looks like she “takes care of herself” and like she “cares about her appearance.” But this doesn’t go along with the idea that all women are fake, now does it? How can a woman care about her appearance without being fake in some capacity? Do you really think that our most beautiful selves occur naturally? NO!
There’s haircuts, there’s face washes and treatments, plucking, waxing, toning, tanning vitamins, workout regimens, diets, meticulous selecting of the most flattering clothes, teeth whitening, dental surgery to fix that gap in your teeth … the list goes on, and on, and on.
All of that stuff isn’t viewed as fake, but in reality, if we want to use the logic that the alteration of one’s appearance is “fake” then ALL alterations of one’s appearance equates to fakeness. So if you dye and cut your hair, whiten your teeth, and wear cologne you’re being FAKE, because your hair doesn’t naturally look like that, your teeth aren’t naturally that white, you don’t naturally smell like that. What is this hypocritical Tom-foolery?
Is makeup natural? No. But is any kind of physical alteration natural? Fuck if you run a comb through your hair with a bit of gel that isn’t natural either. Maybe instead of focusing so damn hard on what is and isn’t fake we should stop having unrealistic expectations. If you want NATURAL so bad then you can go out with a blemished, hairy, unkempt woman while the plucked girls with lip gloss are moving on to less judgmental men.
Why do men have an issue with fake women? Because they want them, of course! They want the girl with the perfected skin, the perfect sculpted facial structure, the long flowing hair and lashes, the tinted lips – that’s the real problem. You fall for the “fakeness” and then are unsatisfied with the person you meet underneath it because you had unrealistic expectations from the very beginning! You bitch about women baiting you and yet you take the bait every single time, so who’s fault is it really?
If you don’t like fake girls, don’t have fake expectations. As a girl who doesn’t even wear much makeup myself I still feel really passionate about this subject because the amount of hypocrisy and idiocy that comes with it is baffling to me.
