though i agree that girls care about physical appearance but its not like boys don;t care !
Girls get judged by their appearance more which is why they care more what they look like. Any ugly guy with a good bank account and a good personality can get a girl but if a girl acts like Mother Teresa but she is not hot - she can't find anybody. Whereas if a guy acts like a saint - he will have tons of hot girls swarming around him.

It's called being feminine and guys would complain if we didn't shave and condition our hair and always like their woman to look nice and dress up at least sometimes now let's be honest about that.
What is it with you and women conditioning their hair? How you carry yourself usually shows how much you care about yourself. If you're trying to get a job and smell, or have horrible hair, the chances of you getting that job goes down. I shave my legs because hairy legs don't feel nice againts soft blankets, and i feel gross with them all hairy. I wear makeup to make myself feel more confident, lipstick goes under makeup, sweetie... Moral of the story, it's pretty much just hygiene.

Lipstick is makeup. And no, but it can be a confidence booster, and having confidence usually leads to better hygiene, because you have the confidence to get stuff done, and to look, smell, and feel the best you can.
But you do it for yourself, not for us guys. Stop using us as an excuse for why you care too much about looks!
I'm 18, of course i'm not going to do it for a guy. I'm not on this earth to please a guy. I'm here to please myself, even if that means looking pretty. The only time I care about my looks, is when i'm going out, so i can get my little confidence boost, and feel proud among my peers. If you, for whatever reason, have a problem with this, get in line with the rest of them, and watch me doll my beautiful self up. Because at the end of the day, it's my face, my body, and my life, and i want to look pretty while living life.

Maybe you care to little. Is that why you keep asking questions like this? Maybe you're just to lazy to take care of yourself and feel that women should just stop caring to much so that we don't make you look like a lazy bum, 'cause that's all im getting out of this.
Well I mean as girl I think it's good to be hygienic, and take care of yourself, but not push it too far by wearing tons of makeup everyday, or spend hours on your hair. I mean some girls really like doing that stuff just for themselves, and some think they'll get guys, but it all just depends on the girl, and possibly the guy they might be trying to impress.
I don't care all that much about how I appear, although I do take care of myself and make sure I look DECENT

It's no just the women that care so much about physical appearance men also care a lot about the women physical appearance. Men are always saying they want a women that has certain physical features like the ones they see on tv and magazines, so we are trying to not only please men but also compete with other women. We are just all brain washed.
Very true. But we have grown up with society influencing us on how we are "suppose" to look, dress and act.. It's all an endless cycle. Not only is it society but guys also put a lot of pressure on us. Feeling like we have to look our best for them or else they won't approve or like us

Honestly, media is really fucked up so we get the idea that to be beautiful, you have to be skinny, or have a certain hairstyle, perfect face symmetry and traits, stuff like that, instead of promoting beauty as a whole, including personality, like people who actually feel beautiful. Some girls are really insecure, men are more visual and they usually express what they like and if that doesn't fit the girl's appearance, she gets a bit insecure. Oh, and some girls ask rate me questions, even though they already know they;re pretty, so they're out of the subject.

So why aren't there 40 year old women falling victim to the media? If the media is the CAUSE of visual insecurities then grandma should still be seeking the same approval you're seeking.
The media targets specific ages. It pressures older women to be the nice grandma, doesn't it? It doesn't encourage grandma to be a cougar.

@MrScTi if you noticed, most of the rate me questions come from girls under 18 and between 18 and 24. As you get older, you realize there are more important things and that appearance passes. Come on... you know how much teen girls are obsessed with weight, perfection etc. And please don't include me. I am not seeking anyone's approval. I am not pleased with my body or face, but don't care for reassurance. I change if I want to. Here (my town) girls my age are very obsessed with being pretty and many are shallow.

MrScTi my grandma used to do drugs heavily. one time she OD, and had to got to the hospital. While there, she watched a lot of TV which enforced the idea of grandma baking cookies and playing bingo. So what did she do when she got out? She stared baking cookies and started playing bingo. She still does drugs, but now she also does grandma things as well! :D
My grandma said the media is bogus and she does things out of her genuine interests and whatever brings back positive memories. If you want to trade anecdotes, go right on ahead. I've come to realize you're not one to make formal arguments and therefore this is a colossal waste of time.

yeah, i saw this women in a store and she painted her nails in most weirdest colors, i mean who gives a shit about pretty nails and some people wear crap on their arms be it a tattoo or some trash band, if you can't smile nor be confident, these silly stuff don't make them appear any better
not just girls, even guys do that by wearing ear rings, i saw these black ear rings on lot of guys, it's like they had bird droppings sticked to their ears
I could answer both yes and no on this question. How should I put this, they do the whole makeup, cosmetic thing, but as for the physical thing, not so much. Otherwise all the women on those dating sites I've been on wouldn't be 50+ pounds overweight.
So do guys. They shave (some their bodies or possibly laser hair removal). Some guys do their eyebrows. They put gel in their hair. Girls may care more but that's only because society conditioned us too through through the years when we ultimately lived in a patriarch society.

Of course appearance is everything now a days, and especially with media creating an image. Certain women try to meet that which can be impossible. I know girls who stress over their weight and they would be a size 1 or they would have to plaster their face with makeup everyday and whenever they take it off they look sick. Unfortunately this happens
I used to work in a clothing store. There have been so many times where we've had to get rid of products because women have tried them on and left foundation marks.
No, I definitely don't think women care too much about their physical appearance. I think most women are rational and care enough to present themselves in a manner they feel represents them and their beauty. Who am I to criticize a woman for trying to appear a certain way? At the same time just because a woman cares about her looks does not mean she doesn't have values; she certainly does and it goes beyond looks.
I don't think we care too much. I wanted to say yes initially but the perks of being a pretty girl are drastically better than a person who is not considered all around beautiful/pretty/gorgeous, and I think there's a need for adoration present in most young ladies and it sort of goes into physical adoration?
To be honest, I never go into detail about wanting/needing to be noticeably pretty. I just do. ;/
