High functioning sociopath?
Or is it just physical attraction?
Or is it, he solve the problems of the heart , making you truly vulnerable and open to him..
Which Sherlock do you like best and why, must include details :)
Which Sherlock Holmes interpretation are you talking about? If you are referring to the movies/tv shows, then most people would say Holmes is attractive because the actor is attractive. Also, many people find intelligence attractive. I know my friend loves it when he goes on long rants (in the BBC show) because she finds his intelligence sexy.
I think most people wouldn't even want to be friends with that kind of person if they met him in real life. But movies are not real life. Even if he acts like an asshole, when we follow his story in the multiple movies we see that he really does care about his friends. Simply meeting someone in person doesn't show that, but we get to see that side of him on screen.
Also, because it's fiction, it's all fantasy. As another Anonymous said, it's interesting and intiguing to watch on tv and imagine it, but that doesn't mean it would work out in real life.
Could be any! You decide.
The Sherlock character is fiction yes, totally agree. However like all elements of fiction there are pockets of truth to any story. The all fiction is based on reality, there must be someone with habits like Sherlock. All i'm asking is, would you like someone like that in your life?
See, that's a difficult question to answer. If I met someone like Sherlock, I would not like him. But the movies show moments of him being alone. The shows reveal that he really does care about John. Do I want someone in my life who actually cares about me? Yes, I would. But I only know that because I get to see that. When we watch a movie about someone, we get to see intimate details of their lives that we don't see in person. Knowing someone on a deep level automatically makes them more appealing (unless going deeper only proves they are a creep, lol).
And the reason I asked which interpretation is because many people will say Sherlock is sexy simply because RDJ is totally hot, or whichever actor is their favorite, etc.
Physically, purely physically, Sherlock Holmes (Cumberbatch) is not attractive to me. He's insanely intelligent, sharp, witty, childish, charming and... he -loves- deeply. Just look at the way he tries to protect his best friend, his family... Sometimes the "saltiest" people are the ones who love deepest. It's just really, really difficult for them to show that kind of love in a socially normal way. He is attractive in that if he were my friend, I -know- he'd do anything and everything to protect me. Gotta respect that. Sigh. I'm in love with a fictional character. And the lows just keep getting lower lmao.
-Traits she listed: insanely intelligent, sharp, witty, childish are pointless. In combination too. Can be attractive but not a reason why Sherlock is.
-He's socially retarded, so he must love deeply, is nonsense. Watson loves more deeply than Sherlock.
-I know he'd protect me is also nonsense. No way to know that based on his traits, other than the fact that you saw him do it, which goes for Watson too.
@inamorata @inamorata This is simply YOUR opinion, she has her opinion too. Everyone is right to themselves when it comes to this thing. You can't declare an OPINION right or wrong.
Whatever his faults, there's rarely a dull moment around him. He's attractive because he's very intelligent, witty, adventurous, intense, discerning, confident, and from most descriptions/images, physically good-looking. I wouldn't want to date him, though. That seems like a disaster in the making. Even being his friend sounds hazardous. He's got a kind of compulsion, though, that's hard to ignore. Then again, maybe a real life version would be more irritating than amusing/intriguing, and it'd be easier than I think.
What you call abrasive... is really brutal honesty of the world and things around him. His intellect and attention allows this. That kind of honesty is attractive to any one. Half tung in Cheek.
I think it's the pipe and hat, that really makes me like him. Yeah, he's smart, but who nowadays isn't? ;)

Reason why Sherlock is attractive is the same reason Sheldon from Big Bang theory has most fangirls.
He's in your face. He will tell you what he thinks, offend you if things don't go his way and go what he must to get things done his way.
Women are attracted to dominance and dominance consists of 3 components: expression (directness and being unafraid of confrontation), punishment (rejection, insult when one does not do as you expect them to) and reward (your care for the person who fulfills your expectations).
Sherlock is a powerful controlling bastard and that's why he's attractive.
Watson is a pussy who is constantly neurotically asking for others' permission to do things.
Also Sherlock if NOT a sociopath of any degree. He has some socialisation disorder, but he's definitely an empath. Either the show writers don't know what a sociopath is, or the character doesn't.
He is strong and brave, but he is too polite and restrained. He won't say what's on his mind because he wants to please people rather than confront them.
Sherlock on the other hand doesn't give a shit.
I never said Watson is not admirable as a person. I said he's not attractive as a man.
Because while abrasive, it's quite clear that he's not a sociopath. He cares about the people in his life and he fights for them, even risking his life for them.
It's physical attraction combined with the intelligence combined with that voice (Cumberbatch), and of course, that loyalty.
So you guessed it, Cumberbatch is my favorite. He's great.
First of all, his "diagnosis" is complete BS, and an excuse to act like an ass. There is no such thing. But to answer the question, it's the "forbidden fruit" cliche. He's completely uninterested in women, which makes him an irresistible challenge.
He's not.
I don't know why the hell all these books with these abusive men get so popular (50 Shades of Gray, Wuthering Heights, Twilight, The Help, Dorian Gray, Sherlock Holmes, etc pretty much all the "classics") and girls are all like "oh he's so dreamy".. no, no he isn't dreamy at all he's abusive and if you're ever with someone like that leave immediately.
I really want to see a study done on why the hell women fall for these abusive characters who use abusive relationship tactics pretty much the whole time. It's so stupid to me.
Well, I would never date Sherlock Holmes. But dang, he's got a sexy voice. I love that voice. Physically, he has the perfect body. The face is a little meh but personality wise? He's loyal. Loyalty is admirable, but he seems incapable of understanding some basic things which would be really, a little too frustrating. However, he would be great to be friends with. Maybe just not boyfriend material.
But dang, that voice.
Um..
Are you sure you're barking up the right tree here?
I only ever see Sherlock with that man Watson.
I find Holmes fascinating and a challenge. I am referring to the Sherlock Holmes of the books. I haven't yet watched the show because I love so much about the original Holmes. As to what specifically - I love his mind. He's described as physically attractive but as a person he has some major issues - but I would love to sit down and have conversations with him.
Which Sherlock we talking about? Cause if it's Cumberbatch Sherlock than physically I find him attractive and his personality intriguing. I don't know if I'd date him but I would want to get closer to him as like a friend maybe. Whether I'd date somebody like him is based on whether I actually liked them as a person.
Having dated an overly critical, arrogant and socially tactless engineer for years, I say thanks but no thanks to Sherlock.
Intriguing and interesting to watch on tv? Sure. Attractive? Not my type.
Thanks. Intelligence IS super sexy. That part is a huge plus. But it's hard in the day to day with someone with relentless criticism and inflated sense of self. A happy balance would be perfect! :)
Having mental health issues myself, I think people need to try to take control of their behavior and how they effect others. It's hard, but necessary.
I loved my ex very much, by the way. He made me extremely sad with the way he talked to me and treated me, though.
Many engineers are pretty awesome! Some are not so great on the people skills. :)
Smart is sexy, and so is a certain level of arrogance, in my opinion. Sherlock also has this charisma that makes him seem like an impossible goal, because he feels too good for anyone else. And we want what we can't have ;)
i find the actor attractive, i like the ACTOR, he has a nice personality (well from what limited info i have, lol) i couldn't b friends with someone like sherlock though
Sherlock Homes is fiction and fantasy is more attractive than reality. Being stuck with a real person like that wouldn't be so sexy. But Cumberbatch is pretty cool.
Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock is my cup of tea!!(: omg I'd rape his face off!!(: he is Truly the sexiest man on this earth.
Every Sherlock Holmes has one thing in common which I've found incredibly attractive: he's clever. He's brilliant, but it's the way he uses his brain that makes him so attractive. He will prove you wrong and dominate in a very mentally alpha way.
Because he's English, and women fall for that for some bizarre reason.
Which Sherlock? The American one or Cumberbatch? Cumberbatch is the best one and is super hot. XD
His intellect and alpha qualities makes him über sexy.
But his asexuality settles in soon after.
I think it's more like psychical attraction and intelligence.
I can see why women think Robert Downey Jr. is somewhat attractive but I don't see why they would think Cumberbatch is hot.
His physical looks, and his alpha male straights.
Probably because he's THE Robert Downey jr!
His detective mind.
I do not find him attractive.
only know the books. i admire his intelligence.
