Why do a bunch of girls believe that "just mascara, eyeliner and lipstick" isn't tons of makeup already?

Honestly, that's already THREE things. A whole bunch of girls on this site claim, "oh I don't really wear makeup, I just wear eyeliner, lipstick and mascara" hello? If you "don't really wear makeup," that means you DON'T actually wear makeup. Maybe something to correct the skin flaws and hide zits and scar marks, but even that is just one thing and you don't need a lot of that.

Honestly, I hate mascara, I don't like eyeliner and I think colored lipsticks look silly (lip gloss to prevent dehydration of the lips is fine, although that's something guys should use too during the winter). So I always find it awkward when someone says, "oh, I don't really wear makeup, except all the things you dislike" :P

Why do people think that is "not too much makeup"? If using 3 products isn't "much", where do you draw the line?

It really isn't that much. I'm one of those girls who doesn't wear makeup, maybe only chapstick if you consider that makeup, but that really isn't a lot.
Some girls literally have more than 10 products that they apply to their face. And some even apply it on their chest to "contour" the chest and even fake the look of cleavage.
So 3 things isn't really that much considering how much some women actually use.

I understand that men SAY they prefer not too much makeup, but the thing is when guys say they like "natural" faces, 9/10 he's referring makeup that's minimal and looks "natural" (still wearing makeup nonetheless though).

It's relative. To me 3 products is kinda a lot, but then not really. Kinda a lot cuz I don't really wear makeup. But then not really cuz I know there are women who wear 10+ products on their face/chest EVERYDAY.
To you, who I assume doesn't wear makeup, I can understand why 3 products seem like a lot though.
As long as they're happy with it and it helps them become more confident, I say let them.

To be fair I probably would too, if i was that skilled.
The point is, you have to see it relation. The point of make up is to make it seem like you're not wearing any. And if you're good enough at it, that will actually work so a lot of guys think a certain is wearing no or little make up, when in fact she might be wearing loads

While all of that might be a bit excessive for every day, girls do wear that much make up quite commonly.

I love how guys claim that they hate make-up, yet they lust over celebrities like Megan Fox, Scarlet Johansson, etc. Not fake at all, right?
If men hate make-up so much, then why do they keep watching p*rn? Why are they not turned off by it? p*rn stars are caked in make-up and they usually apply 11 different products on their face ALONE. I don't see men complaining about them though... On contrary, they consider them hot and sexy. Am I wrong?

As for eyeliner, mascara and colored lipsticks, well... compared to plastic surgeries and applying 11 different products on your face, 3 products are not really that much, are they?

...  ... At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if a girl wears (a lot of) makeup or not.  I usually say, I'd prefer girls without makeup, but I think that way for other reasons than most other people.  Actually, it's not really not important how much makeup a girl wears, I really don't see why many others always say they dislike makeup because it doesn't look natural. Even if it doesn't, who cares? Well, I don't.

Lip gloss is not lip balm. Lip bank is soothing and good for your lips lip gloss is like sugar: sticky and disgusting and in my eyes for teenage girls not women.

I don't wear make up usually. That means no make up, people have to put up with my unfiltered, unshopped face unless I'm going out for a special occasion, then I'll put mascara and lipstick, maybe maybe some eyeshadow. Maybe. I remember a friend saying that she never wears make-up even though she did, and the other girls were asking her why she said she wore none, when she actually did wear some make-up. She said that she didn't consider it (mascara, eyeliner, blush, etc) as make-up.

Personally, I just use sunscreen and lip balm. That's all the make-up that I wear. While the other women look pretty in it, I look like that clown from Batman (what's his name? Joker?), if I wear make-up and I don't really know how to wear it. Mascara and eye liner makes your eyes burn, when you try to remove your make-up.

So I am lucky, because my boyfriend prefers me make-up/lotion-free.

i had this crazy idea a while back that makeup is actually really bad for the face in the sense that it may actually make women appear to age faster or something like that, its not exactly made with good stuff.. and who knows what the long term effects can be, i had an extensive thread about it in the past too.. the idea came up after remembering an old movie which had a villain who wanted to use makeup do destroy every woman's face as soon as they stopped using it.. like i said crazy but still..

note: the most i ever wore was by my mom and i think she overdid it, that was on JS prom i think 6 or 7 years ago, i just wanted to wash it all off during the prom :\

I wear my makeup because it makes me feel good, I wear it only when I can be bothered or when I want to look pretty, and it's because I'm more comfortable wearing my makeup and even when I do wear my makeup it is the little bits you said, I know girls that wear it all the time and make themselves orange, it's personal choice and a lot of the time for me it isn't even about impressing guys it's because other girls find it so easy to look down on you if you're not like them

Mascara, eyeliner and lipstick is too much for me. I use lip balm, that too in winter or when I feel my lips are dry.
I have seen girls who use all of these (lipstick, mascara, eyeliner) plus foundation and say that 'its a little makeup'.

When I think of people who wear a lot of make up, I think of things that alter the appearance of their skin. Like: blush, foundation, powder, concealer, bronzer, etc. If used correctly this shit can actually make someone's face shape change... seriously. I don't know how to do this shit nor do I even own any of the stuff I just mentioned. I consider "light make up" to be just mascara (like my picture). Because there are many more makeup options to choose from than just three lol. Think about women who go all out... you have foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, sometimes multiple eyeshadow colors, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, lipliner, lip gloss... not to mention the stuff women use to prep: lotion, primer, toner... whatever else there is lol. There are probably other makeup things that woman could use too that I have no clue on. So for those that think it's not much... it really isn't when you compare it to what some people wear.

If I'm getting dressed up for something I'll wear foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, maybe some mascara and a lip balm (which I wear always anyways). To me, it's not a whole lot since 1) I use it sparingly and 2) it's not a "full face" which is something a lot of women do (even if it's not as noticeable).

I (rarely - 3-4x a year) wear eyeshadow and mascara because it looks kind of weird to wear one without the other, at least in my opinion. I don't generally bother with anything else (and I don't know that I can name all the things girls use) except the occasional lip gloss and sometimes concealer if I have a particularly bad zit or similar. But we're talking every few months.
I don't even know how to apply foundation or blush or under eye concealer or eyeliner or lip liner (ok I can name most of them apparently) without looking like a clown.

3 products isn't much when compared to the makeup routines of some. A lot girls wear 5,8,10, I've even heard of 15 and 20. So compared to that, "I don't really wear makeup" is an appropriate response, and some of those girls probably don't wear it everyday.

I persobally don't believe in using makeup to change or hide your features, I like to use it to enhance what I have. That typically means eye makeup to draw attention to my eyes, because I think they fade into my face. I only go full face with lipstick and foundation and all those things fot special occasions; but to each their own. :)

Wearing mascara, eyeliner and lipstick is away nothing to me. I wear concealer, foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, contour, eyebrow pecil thing, blush and lip balm. Mind you, I managed to put all this and still look somewhat natural. Makeup helps enhance my features such as my cheek bones. Also, I look more awake with makeup.

Dude, quite tripping 3 products is NOT a lot. lol What's a little makeup, nothing? lol Well you're entitled to your opinion. I think drawing the line is when a girl's face looks like a clown. By that I mean, foundation that is too thick, too dark or too light, dark lipstick that doesn't go with your face, heavy eye makeup, big false lashes and bright blush. I don't consider that a lot... and it wasn't; you really couldn't tell, minus the lip gloss having shine to it. I think it also depends on how much product you use and how obvious it looks.
