Girls can ask a guys height, but guys can't ask a girls weight?

Especially on Tinder or a dating site, girls always wanna know a guys height and pressure guys to put height in their bio or whatever. So why is it crossing the line to ask how much a girl weighs? At least weight is something that can be altered, unlike height.

I don't know about Tinder or dating sites (haven't been on either one), but in real life I find asking about a guy's height to be similar to asking about a girl's weight. It's generally acceptable to ask an undoubtedly thin girl about her weight just as it's generally acceptable to ask an undoubtedly tall guy about his weight. Asking about height or weight is often considered taboo when it involves a short guy or a thicker girl because both are unfairly assumed to be self-conscious.

I have a really short friend and people ask him his height all the time. Same with me a few years ago when I was really short.

I have asked short guys I know in the past how tall they are but usually they're uncomfortable telling me or won't even tell me at all, which reminds me of how some thicker girls may react the same way when asked their weight. I think the reason why girls may be less likely to be asked about their weight is because people in general view girls as being much more sensitive, whereas guys aren't supposed to care much or have self-esteem issues (despite being just as human as females), so some people may not find asking a short guy his height offensive because of that reason.

Not all people feel that way, though. I've been told quite a few times not to ask a short guy what his height is because he could be self-conscious about it. So yeah, I find asking about a guy's height and girl's weight to have many similarities when it comes to social taboo-ness although asking about a guy's height may be less so.

well, height... is height. a girl who weighs 100 lbs might look EXACTLY the same as a girl who weighs 135. the second girl just has more muscle. but a super judgey guy might just assume the second girl was fatter. i think guys are really poor judges of weight. i remember one dude (who isn't a moron) thought i was 80 lbs. seriously dude? 80 lbs and i'd be a bag of bones. i weigh 101 lbs lol. guys are just shit at judging weight in my opinion. height is always constant.

I think it's easier to judge the weight of your own gender (at least it is for me) because you're more acquainted with what the body of your gender looks like at different weights and different amounts of body fat. I don't know anything at all about guys' weights and what they look like at varying weights and with different amounts of body fat. I assume it's the same with many guys. My guy friends have assumed in the past that I was under 100 lbs. -_- Like you stated about yourself, I'd be a skeleton.

A girl that muscular would be equally unattractive, and maybe you are right about guys being bad judges, but never the less weight is still very important to us. Especially when girls look super thin in their photos, yet look obese irl. This is coming from a guy who prefers really short chubby girls by the way like 10-15lbs overweight.

I would answer. Personally, I don't really care unless the guy were to laugh and call me fat. I'm 115, 5'6" and not embarrased to admit that. Its one of the many double standards in our society. I think I'm fat but if he doesn't make fun of me, I see no reason to not say anything.

There is equal pressure placed on guys, plus when you're looking for someone to date you aren't young and shouldn't be so fragile anymore. I wasn't really hoping for girls to list their weight, but I guess that helps to prove not all girls are so sensitive about it.

I understand that guys feel similarly pressured, but weight issues seem to cause mental/emotional/physical pain, because of the pressure to change it. Height can't be changed, so it's more likely to be accepted. That's just my opinion, though.

You can tell from their pictures if they're fat or not, I don't really think the actual weight value matters. With height unless you're standing next to something of a known height in your picture, it's not really easy to tell how tall you are...

I know A LOT of girls who look really skinny in their pics, yet look fat in real life. If you know how much they weigh, at least you have some basis to judge off of rather than just possibly heavily edited pics.

It would be rude if a girl asked a guy for his weight too, and it wouldn't be weird for a guy to ask for a girls height. So no double standard exists here.

I mean I understand your frustration. It's no big deal to me either but it's something females are insecure about. There are things us guys are insecure about too. That said if I want to know then I want to know. That's just me.
